In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges, Garrett McCaffrey, and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.
We sat down with world champion Torri Huske, fresh off of her 100 fly win in Budapest. Huske takes us back to Tokyo where she finished 4th in the 100 fly final and how that motivated her this entire year to come back on top. Part of that preparation came in the form of 400 IM training, which Huske says really helped her on the back half of her races, which she felt were lacking.
Huske also discusses her love/hate relationship with the 50 free, her NCAA lineup, and managing an enormous event schedule throughout a 6-8 day championship meet.

she is so fun to watch!!!!!!…..a stud!!!!…..
She may break 5:05.00
Would like to see her drop the 50m and do more 200 free
I was really sad that SM & TH weren’t going head to head. Be careful what I wish for, lol?
Huske scares me. There’s something in her eyes that says, ‘2024 is mine’.
But my money is on SM, all the way – SM & a couple WRs.
Summer McIntosh is not swimming the 100 fly I thought
They won’t even face off in an individual event and likely won’t face off in a relay. Why compare those 2?
Tracy’s always looking for an opportunity to shoehorn McIntosh into the conversation.
Settle down, troll!
nothin like a little gas on da fire!!!!!
I’m glad she’s training 400 IM just so she gets some good breaststroke work in. If something were to happen to Bob she might be Stanford’s best backup breaststroker option on medley relays.
This makes no sense at first blush & makes total sense taking in all the context of her strategy for 2024.
All of the above applies to Alex Walsh as well. Alex Walsh is terrific in all 4… Read more »
Just to clarify – Torri made it clear she is not focusing on the 400 IM, she’s just doing that kind of training but doesn’t plan on racing it seriously.
She IS focusing on the 200 IM, and would have swam it at Trials this year but it was a direct conflict with the 100 fly in Budapest
just to clarify, even the url says: “torri-huske-has-been-training-for-the-400-im”
As soon as I saw the header I figured it had to mean training that event solely to help with her primary events. But it indeed was sloppy application and should have been handled differently. This site doesn’t need clickbait sleight of hand.
USA Swimming could use as many females competing in the women’s 200 meter freestyle. Katie Ledecky wants the world record in the women’s 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay.
If the headline read “Learn why Tori Huske is training with 400IM group”
Katie Ledecky trained the 400 IM under former coach Yuri Suguiyama.
Her training definitely helped her with the 2nd half of all her races. In the past, we often saw that the last 15-meter distance was very challenging for her. At world, she could hold on her own quite well. So I hope she continues to train 400IM that would help her 2nd half races.
Now, the interesting thing is the 200 breast she said she loved to race. I would love to see that. It will also help with her breaststroke in 200 IM portion.
Just want to be clear – I mentioned the 200 breast as a joke. Torri did not. I do not think she will be swimming that one😂
Ha ha ha…she should train it and race Kate Douglas! 😄
She’d be a serious 200 breast player if she swam it. Same could be said for 200 free. Huske is so talented nothing is out of bounds in terms of the possibilities. These are the good ole days for US women’s swimming.
Cries in freestyle sprint
Wish she would dedicate a season to relay starts. Should be her only focus heading into this years NCAA’s and prep for the chance to possibly rep the country in the 2024 Olympics
So she just does relay starts for the next two years?
That is a heck of a take on USRPT
She clearly leaves a full second plus on table on flying starts. Doubt she can find a full second in her swimming. She has the most to gain on the start.
