There were no men’s meets this weekend in the Pac 10, but the UCLA women were very busy.
Pac-10 Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Brittany Beauchan (UCLA)
UCLA Goes 4-0 on Weekend
- The UCLA Bruins went 4-0 on the weekend in double-dual meets against Loyola Marymount and UC-Davis on Friday, and UCSB and conference foe Oregon State, who moves to 0-4, on Saturday.
- Full listing of Weekend Scores: UCLA 165-UC Davis 121; UCLA 171.5-LMU 100.5; UCLA 159-Oregon State 97; UCLA 156-UCSB 98; UCSB 170-Oregon State 92; UC-Davis 217-LMU 76.
- Brittany Beauchan won three events on the weekend for UCLA, including NCAA “B” cuts in both breaststroke events. Her best time on the weekend was a 1:01.68 in the 100 on Friday, which is third best in the nation on this young season and is already approaching her NCAA mark (1:00.90) from last year. Beauchan was the consolation champ in both breaststrokes last year, and she’s going to have a huge season.
- UCLA Sophomore Kelsey Hall already set a lifetime best in the 1000 on Friday, by winning in 10:17.9. That has to be a positive sign for her season to go such a good time in a distance event at this time of the season.
- Senior Lauren Hall (no relation) swam the best time in the nation in the 400 IM this season (4:16.01) on Saturday.
- Oregon State’s Jenni Dole swept the backstroke events on Saturday, with a 56.44 in the 100 and a 2:01.65 in the 200. Oregon State lost the best backstroker in program history to transfer after last season, but Dole seems to be ready to step in and perhaps take that title away.
- On Saturday, three swimmers notched 4:59 500 freestyles, with UCSB’s freshman phenom Andrea Ward winning the touch at 4:59.26. She’s going to be a good one for the Gauchos.
