Australia and Cuba Sign Cooperative Agreement…..The Cuban Olympic Committee (COC) and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) have joined together in a partnership aimed at helping the development of coaches and athletes ahead of Rio 2016. Both Committees’ Presidents attended the Association of National Olympic Committees General Assembly last week and it was there that the four-year agreement was signed. The agreement involves sharing sports science, sports medicine and facility construction information, while also exchanging academic expertise.

Thomas Fraser-Holmes Nabs Noosa Win…..Australian swimmer Thomas Fraser-Holmes scored a win in the annual Noosa 1000 Ocean Swim, an open water race held in conjunction with the Noosa Triathlon Multi-Sport Festival at Noosa Main Beach. Fraser-Holmes finished the 1km race in a time of 11 minutes and 4 seconds. Said Fraser-Holmes of his victory, “I’m not used to that sort of thing now – especially running and then getting straight back into the swim again and with the guys behind me pushing it all the way. I felt like I was about to pass out at the finish. It was way tougher than I expected, but it’s a great event.” Fraser-Holmes was the 200m freestyle champion at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Georgina Boyle Earns Sponsorship…..Commonwealth Youth Games champion, Great Britain’s Georgina Boyle, has announced she is now being supported by National Express, a British multinational public transport company that operates buses, coaches, trains and tram services throughout the United Kingdom and beyond. As part of the relationship, the 16-year-old swimmer was presented with a free ‘journey pass’, which can be used to travel throughout the country for training and competitions. Boyle earned a gold medal in the women’s 200m freestyle at this year’s Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa. ]Tom Stables, managing director at National Express UK Coach, said, “We are really proud of Georgie’s amazing achievements in Samoa this year and think her determination and skill make her a fantastic role model for other young people so are delighted to offer her free travel as she takes her career to the next level”.
