Destin Lasco has re-broken his own National Age Group Record in the 100 backstroke, swimming a 53.54 to win the boys’ 11-12 100 back at the Middle Atlantic Elite Meet on Sunday.
That swim broke the 54.03 that he swam at the Tom Dolan Invitational in 2013. In total, Lasco has lowered Ryan Murphy’s 54.20 NAG Record by seven-tenths of a second in just over a month.
On Saturday, Lasco broke the 50 yard backstroke record, meaning that he now holds all of the 12 & under yards backstroke records aside from the 11-12 200 back mark (he was about two seconds shy of the record in that race on Saturday).
Kevin- he is on cloud nine! In truth, it had been a while since he last swam (I think last spring) but I certainly did not expect him to swim that fast.
Bobo, thanks! my son was very happy with his time. Nice drop! As for Destin, I would say he is about 5 ft 6? My son is 5 ft 10 (very tall for a 12 year old). Just very efficient with his start, turns, stroke and finish. Textbook.
How does one drop seven seconds in one meet? Especially in a 100!
I bet your son is very, very happy and excited about this. That’s great!
An amazing swim…my son finished 2nd to him!
Congrats to your son.
I see he had a seed time of 1.05.91 before the meet.
58.78 now. Impressive time drop. He must be happy to break the minute barrier.
So you have seen Mr Lasco for real.
In your opinion, how tall is he?
I simply can not believe it!!!!! wow!!!!!!!
He’s absolutely amazing.
And unlike many other young swimmers, he has a fantastic technique.
A big big star in the making.
