13-Year-Old Madison Mintenko Posts 4:18 400 Free – Austin Sectionals Day 3

University of Denver’s Natalie Arky clocked a huge best time in the 200 back on the 3rd day of the Austin Sectionals meet. Arky won the women’s 200 back in 2:14.20, touching first by 2.32 seconds. The swim marked a giant 2.54-second improvement from her previous best, which had stood since 2017.

Kathryn Shanley, a Foothills Swim Club 18-year-old, won the women’s 400 free in 4:18.41, marking a massive lifetime best. Shanley entered the meet with a best time of 4:21.62, which she set in 2019. Coming in 2nd was Pikes Peak Athletics 13-year-old Madison Mintenko, who posted a 4:18.62. Mintenko dropped almost 10 seconds from her previous best of 4:28.25 with the swim.

Swim Neptune’s Keaton Jones, 16, posted a 2:00.41 to win the men’s 200 back, touching first by over a second. His performance was just off his lifetime best of 2:00.28, which is from 2019. Foothills Swim Team 16-year-old Chase Mueller came in 2nd in 2:01.76. Mueller’s swim was a personal best, coming in well under his previous mark of 2:02.64.

Tualatin Hills Swim Club 18-year-old Elizabeth Cook continued to have a great meet, taking the women’s 100 fly in 59.81. Cook’s time was a lifetime best, chipping 0.13 seconds off her previous best of 59.94. King Aquatic Club’s Patrick Keough, 17, won the men’s 100 fly in 54.45, touching off his personal best of 53.82.

Tanner Nelson, an 18-year-old from BYU, won the men’s 400 free in 3:58.91, touching as the only swimmer in the field under 4:00. Nelson was just off his own best time of 3:58.29, which he established in May of this year.

Luca Gissendaner, a Scottsdale Aquatic Club 17-year-old, won the men’s 100 breast in 1:03.39, marking a huge personal best. Gissendaner entered the meet with a best time of 1:04.91, which was from April of this year. Caroline Bricker, a 16-year-old out of Colorado Springs Area Swimming, won the women’s 100 breast in 1:10.83. The swim marked a 0.13-second drop from her previous best.
