14 Year Old Guillermo Cruz Zuniga Breaks Canadian Record in the 100 Freestyle

14 year old Guillermo Cruz Zuniga of PPO made a splash on the second night of the 2015 Speedo Eastern Canadian Open winning the men’s 16 and under 100 freestyle in a time of 52.60. His time breaks the national age group record of 52.91 set by Yannick Lupien in 1994.

It was an incredible race for Cruz Zuniga who improved his long course time of 54.24 in the event by a second and a half. He did post a 51.11 short course 100 freestyle last weekend missing Lupien’s short course record by eight one-hundredths of a second.

Dominique Massie-Martel of Lavel took the 17 and over event in a time of 51.53.

Xavier Gauvreau of CAO took the 16 and under 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.42 while Antoine Bujold of the Pointe-Claire Swim Club took the 17 and over event in a time of 1:03.55.

Sebastian Paulins of the Brantford Aquatic Club took the 16 and under 400 IM in a time of 4:38.30 while Christian Ng of Markham won the 17 and over event in a time of 4:28.28.

Liam Veregin of GO took the 16 and under  50 backstroke in a time of 27.82 while Mirando Jarry of CAMO took the 17 and over event in a time of 27.18.

Elite took the men’s 800 freestyle relay in a time of 7:43.99.

On the women’s side Marie-Sophie Harvey of the Neptune Swim Club took both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke in the women’s 15 and under age group. On Friday night Harvey once again struck gold winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 57.74.

Michelle Williams of NYAC took the women’s 16 and over 100 freestyle in a time of 55.28.

Nina Kucheran of the Laurentian Swim Club won the 15 and under 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:13.35. Martha McCabe who had a great 200 breaststroke on the first night of competition took the 16 and over event in a time of 1:10.35.

The Oakville Aquatic Club swept the 400 IM events. Mabel Zavaros took the 15 and under event in a time of 4:57.76 while her teammate Tess Cieplucha won the 16 and over event in a time of 4:52.05.

Lily Bellehumeur-Bechamp of CNQ took the 15 and under 50 backstroke in a time of 30.12 while Eliana Beaudry of DDO won the 16 and over event in a time of 29.23.

The Oakville Aquatic Club won the women’s 800 freestyle relay in a time of 8:26.51.
