Indiana claimed 1-2 seeds in both the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke events, yet Michigan is bringing back 4 swimmers in just the A-Final of the women’s 100 backstroke alone. Sheer numbers point to Michigan bringing back 20 total swimmers with Indiana right behind with 19. The next closest is Purdue with 16. Regardless, a huge point kitty is at stake with the top 3 teams ready to pounce to try to pull away headed into day 3.
In terms of looking at where the points may fall come tonight’s finals, we’ve broken each team’s returning swimmers into a category of either ‘up’, ‘mid’ or ‘down’. For those unfamiliar with the terminology: “Up” means a swimmer who is in the A-final, as those swimmers cannot fall lower than 8th barring a DQ. “Mid” is what we’ll call teams in the “B” final, who are bound from 9th-16th places. “Down” will mean C-finalists, who are between 17th-24th place.
