Amalie Fackenthal has announced via social media her verbal commitment to Stanford University for the 2018-19 season. Fackenthal is the #15 recruit on the SwimSwam list of top 20 girls from the high school class of 2018.
“I’m incredibly blessed and excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at Stanford University!! ❤️❤️??Class of 2022”
Fackenthal is a fantastic sprinter in free and fly, and will add a great deal to the Stanford lineup when Janet Hu and Ally Howe graduate. A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, she won both the 50/100 freestyles at the 2017 California State Meet, swimming for Sacramento Country Day School. Fackenthal does her club swimming with Davis Aquadarts Racing Team. She competed at U.S. Nationals and World Championship Trials in June and notched best times in the 50/100 free and 50 fly.
Her top SCY times are:
- 50 free – 22.38
- 100 free – 48.62
- 200 free – 1:49.10
- 50 fly – 24.24
- 100 fly – 52.78
- 200 fly – 1:59.58
Other verbally committed members of the Cardinal’s class of 2022 are Allie Raab, Anya Goeders, and Zoe Bartel.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
I hope these recruits realize that only 18 make the NCAA travel team including divers… guarantee there’s gonna be some unhappy campers at some point…
I believe divers only count for half when it comes to NCAA travel requirements.
I believe it is only a third with the addition of 10 mtr
Yes, they should be worried about that!
Taylor Ruck just announced her commitment to Stanford!!! Congratulations Taylor!
Ncaa D1 swimming is not a competition. It is an exhibition. It is a one horse race for the forseeable future. Stanford is unbeatable for at least the next eight years. Why have the competition, The outcome is pre-determined. A comparison would be having a high school basketball team play against an NBA team. And please, to all the negative commenters to this post, present a scenario where Stanford women do not win Pac 12 and NCAA for at least the next 6 years.
Present me a scenario of how you know they are going to be unbeatable for the next 8 years. Have they filled their class of 2025 yet?
Change 8 to 3
People said the same about Cal. Things change fast, suck it up.
People did say the same thing about Cal a few years back, when they went on a recruiting run with Missy, Pelton, Bootsma, etc. While Stanford’s recruiting is probably even better than that crew, Cal only won one NCAA title in the years people predicted a dynasty. College swimming is very difficult to project more than 2-3 years out – take it from someone who has to try to make a living projecting it!
Theoretically, Stanford has no replacement for Janet Hu and Ally Howe. They are getting some decent flyers who might develop into great ones, and their sprinting ranks are still very strong, but they have no 50. flyers or backstrokers and it is not a given that they will get them. Right now, once Hu and Howe leave, their fastest flyer is a 52 high and I don’t even know if they have a 52 backstroker. Even with Bartel coming and consistent anchors, this will be a big blow to their medley relays, which is a lot of points. Not to mention, DQs happen and they are huge point swings.
haters will hate your all just plain jealous 🙂
Stanford the dream school to all but only best are excepted
best in swim & classroom & culture & developing olympians
no other school can boast such a elite standard across the board
Ruck Merrell Nordmann already visit campus
they will fill the giant shoes of our bosses Howe & Hu
already dominate NCAA & gonna destroy all others by 300 points+ for many many cycles
awesome history in the making go Coach Meehan go Card
Does Stanford have enough money left for Nordmann and Merrel? I know they will have a lot of seniors graduating but their class is already huge.
I have heard that Merrel will have trouble with admissions based off her curriculum.
Nordmann had it narrowed down to three schools, two of which were UT (Texas) and Georgia. Was spotted with Eva Merrell the other day at UGA
But Stanford has something no other major women’s swimming power has, breastrokers
zoe bartel, allie raab, not to mention incoming freshman grace zhao. sorry >-<
I’ve been crunching the numbers. More like 12 years.
Simple. They miss their taper. Or a they come down with a norovirus. Both have happened to top teams before.
They DQ a relay again. It happened in 2016.
Congratulations Amalie! Welcome to the Farm! Hope other top swimmers will commit soon too. Come on Taylor and Lucie!
The rich get disproportionately richer
The dreaded 1%
Congratulations Amalie! All of Sierra Nevada Swimming is proud of your accomplishments in the classroom and in the pool!
