Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwamās College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Caiden Bowers from Marriottsville, Maryland, has made a verbal commitment to the University of California, Berkeley. He will join the Golden Bears with the already-committed Andrew Shackell in the fall of 2025.
He made his announcement on social media:
āI am beyond grateful and excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of California, Berkeley! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for all of their support in this process. I would also like to thank all of the coaches at Cal for giving me this incredible opportunity. GO BEARS! š»š»š»
āWhen your life doesnāt go as planned, change your perspective but do not stop dreamingā
Originally in the class of 2024, Bowers was verbally committed to Harvard. After Harvard reneged on its commitment, Bowers reclassified to the class of 2025. We then ranked him #15 on our Way Too Early list of boysā recruits from the class.
He has a wide range of events, hovering near the top of the class in the 100 fly, 100 breast, and 200 IM. Bowers swims for McDonogh School and Eagle Swim Team. He was instrumental in McDonoghās 5th-straight MIAA āAā title last February, winning the 100 fly (47.96) and 100 breast (54.70), earning PBs in both events and lowering his own Maryland state record in the fly.
A couple of weeks later, he won the 100/200 breast, 50/100 fly, and 200 IM at the Maryland Swimming LSC Senior Championships. He left the meet with new times in the 50 free, 50 breast, 50 fly, and 200 IM. Two weeks later, he was back at it, competing at the NCSA Spring Championships. There, he placed top-8 in the 50 breast, 100 breast, and 50 fly and was 9th in the 200 IM.
At the LCM version of that event this summer, he finished 3rd in the 50 breast (28.84), 5th in the 100 breast (1:03.46), and 10th in the 50 fly (25.20). He wrapped up the summer at Junior Nationals where he swam the 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM.
Best SCY times:
- 100 fly ā 47.96
- 200 fly ā 1:49.79
- 100 breast ā 54.70
- 200 breast ā 2:01.23
- 200 IM ā 1:48.79
Bowers will bring flexibility to the Cal roster. His sophomore-year 100 fly time would have ranked 5th among the Golden Bears last season and his 100/200 breast, 200 fly, and 200 IM times would have hovered around the top-10. With his summer improvements of 1.8 seconds in the 100 LCM breast, 3.7 in the 200 breast, 2.4 in the 200 fly, and 1.2 in the 200 IM, Bowers is poised to have a strong short-course season this year, giving the Golden Bears even more options when he suits up in the fall of 2025.

Isn’t he a high school senior now? Is he planning on taking a gap year?
Where will he train when he graduates in May?

Common L for Andrew
Welcome to Cal and Go Bears!
YESSIR GO CAIDEN I KNOW THAT KID
Go Bears!
Wow, what a shame. Cal does not do well with short axis breaststroke guys
More guys under 51 than any other school š
let’s take a look at some of their guys. i tried to keep it to recruits from 2021 and earlier, meaning they’ve had at least 2+ years with Cal’s program
Jacques Lauffer came in a 54.19/1:54.72 breaststroker (converted from SCM so it’s accurate) and he is now a 53.96/1:54.95 breaststroker. quite the improvement!
Jack Meehan came in a 55.3/2:01.58. He is now a 55.3/2:01.58 breaststroker. Didn’t drop any time whatsoever. Cal turned him into a distance freer (not his strengths) when he was an intriguing breast/mid D free/IM versatile prospect coming out of high school
Forrest Frazier was a 54.16/2:00.03 breaststroker. He is now a 52.46/1:54.63 breaststroker. Good 200 improvement, but from a top 20 recruit with a 1.xx power… Read more Ā»
I like how you conveniently left out Jacob Soderlund (54.2/2:01.5 to 51.9/1:54.4), Matthew Jensen (54.2 to 51.4), and a bunch of others for the sake of your argument
Those guys were last minute pickups and slow coming out of high school. Itās not asking much (or a testament to coaching staff) when a swimmer drops from a high school time to 51 mid-high
If every coaching staff can take these swimmers that are ālast minute pick upsā (Matthew Jensen committed November of his junior yr btw), and make them 51, why are there only 40 sub 52 each year?
Yeah, because they recruit guys going 51. Iād be concerned if they didnāt at least get to 50 point.
The increasing specificity as he reaches further and further is hilarious
