The Sierra Marlins hosted nine clubs last weekend at the Folsom Senior Classic, with several up-and-coming age group swimmers producing some exciting results.

Highlighting the competition was 15-year-old Sierra Marlin swimmer Erica Jaffe, who picked up five wins and four new best times, including a pair of blistering swims in the 100 back.

Jaffe lowered her best time twice in the 100 back, first clocking 54.59 in the prelims before getting down to 54.35 in the final. Those improved on her previous PB of 54.65, set in May, and ranks her second among 15-year-old girls this season.

Jaffe also took over the top time among 15-year-olds this season with a new best in the 200 back, clocking 1:56.84 in the prelims before winning the final in 1:58.04. She was a finalist in the 200 back this past summer at the Speedo Junior National Championships, placing eighth.

Jaffe added wins in the 200 IM (2:01.00) and 400 IM (4:21.17), both best times, and also topped the field in the 50 free (23.75).

Another top performer at the meet was fellow Sierra Marlin Ava Chavez, a Cal commit who reeled off four victories and two other top-four finishes.

The 17-year-old won the 100 free (50.70), 200 free (1:49.52), 200 breast (2:15.23) and 100 fly (54.28), and also placed second to Jaffe in the 200 IM (2:03.82) and took fourth in the 100 breast (1:04.63).

Chavez neared best times in the 100 free and 100 fly, having been 50.48 and 54.08, in December 2021 and May 2022, respectively.

Also standing out was 13-year-old Rowyn Wilber of Clovis Swim Club, as she won the girls’ 500 free (5:00.67) and 1650 free (17:21.98) with new personal best times.

On the boys’ side, the top performer was Bend Swim Club’s Campbell McKean, who set new best times en route to victories in the 200 back (1:52.70), 200 breast (2:05.83), 200 fly (1:50.69) and 200 IM (1:51.07). The 16-year-old also set new bests in the 100 free (47.10), 100 breast (57.18) and 100 fly (49.59).
