Fifteen-year-olds Lydia Jacoby, Emma Weber, and Aubree Brouwer left their marks on the all-time 15-16 girls’ age group ranks on the first night of the 2019 Speedo Junior National Championships.
Jacoby, who swims for the Seward Tsunami Swim Club, led the way with the event win in 1:08.12 (31.96/36.16). She jumps to No. 6 in 15-16 history, tying Ellie Andrews‘ swim from the 2019 U.S. National Championships last week. Jacoby’s best time entering the meet was 1:08.81 from last week.
Weber, representing the Unversity of Denver Hilltoppers, took second in 1:08.73, splitting 32.35/36.28. That time puts her at No. 12 in the age group all-time. Weber’s swim took over a second-and-a-half off her prelims time, which had been her best time.
Finishing fourth overall and representing Springfield Aquatics was Brouwer in 1:09.33 (32.83/36.50). She’s now the No. 18 15-16 performer in history. Her prior best time of 1:09.78 was from mid-July.
The three were already the top three 15-year-old girls in the U.S. this season (Jacoby-Brouwer-Weber), and remain the top three in the order of Tuesday’s swims. Megan Kendrick‘s 19-year-old national age group record stands at 1:07.05.
All of Alaska is cheering you on, keep it up Lydia!
Very exciting to see an Alaskan on top! Just curious, does Jacoby train somewhere else in the summer? There’s only one long course pool in Alaska and it’s a long ways from Seward.
I believe she still trains in Seward most of the summer. The one long course pool in Alaska is in Anchorage, but it spends about 49 weeks a year configured as two 25-yard pools… so those of us that live in Anchorage only get to train long course for a few weeks, at best. We have a Summer Long Course Championship at the end of July each year, so our Alaskan swimmers do get one shot at getting LCM times each year without leaving the state.
Lydia is an amazing swimmer and an even more remarkable human being– all of Alaska is SO very proud of her and we wish her all the best as she continues to represent… Read more »
Alaska has produced many great swimmers who have done well in College and Trials. Lydia’s swim was outstanding! Having spent 22 years coaching in Alaska I still try to follow the teams up North! Way to go young lady!
Nope!! She travels to Anchorage for the 50 meter pool in Anchorage!! She’s swam at Western Zones Age Group for long course experience as well. She was able to travel this year for more prestigious competitions! She is an amazing young lady with great parents!!
Kudus to Aubree and her coach at Springfield Aquatics, Thomas Baumann, who happens to be my coach at Springfield Aquatics Masters!
