#16 Daniel Carr Makes Verbal Commitment to Cal Golden Bears

The University of California, Berkeley landed its second big verbal commit of the season (after Ryan Hoffer) when Daniel Carr announced his intention by Instagram today.

Carr is a senior at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. An Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100/200 backstrokes, Carr is the #16 recruit on our list of top 20 boys in the high school class of 2017. Carr swims for Pikes Peak Athletics, where he was a top-8 finisher in the 100 back, 200 back, and 100 breast at Speedo Winter Juniors West last December. Carr has a large arsenal, however, and could develop in any number of directions for the Golden Bears.

His top times include:

  SCY LCM
200 back 1:43.38 2:01.73
100 back 48.10 54.95
200 breast 2:24.21
100 breast 55.42 1:05.83
400 IM 3:53.36 4:30.90
200 IM 1:48.11 2:05.25

Carr will arrive just in time to bolster the backstroke group when world record-holder and Cal senior Ryan Murphy graduates. Before even suiting up for the Golden Bears, Carr would be a B-finalist in the 100/200 back and 400 IM, and a C finalist in the 200 IM.
