16 Dutch Athletes Head to Tenerife for a 10 Day Training Camp

On June 4th 16 Dutch athletes will head to Tenerife, Spain for their second last training camp before Rio. The camp will run until June 14th. The swimmers attending the camp include; Inge Dekker, Femke Heemskerk, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Maud van der Meer, Robin Neumann, Marrit Steenbergen, Esmee VermeulenMartin Brzoskowski, Dion Dreesens, Joost Reijns, Marcel Schouten, Ben Schwietert, Kyle Stolk, Joeri Verlinden, Sebastiaan Verschuren and Ferry Weertman

There was some question whether Heemskerk, who trains with Philippe Lucas and Dreesens, who trains with SwimMAC, would be making the trip. After finishing second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle at the European Championships Lucas and the Royal Dutch Swimming Association agreed that it would be best for Heemskerk to attend the camp.

Dressens, who is suffering from a slightly herniated disc in his back, and his coaches felt it would be best if he trained with the Dutch team and had their medical staff treat the injury. Dressens is confident that the injury will heal and that he will be ready to race well in Rio.

The camp is the final part of the team’s preparation for their final stretch of competitions before the Olympics. The Dutch team will race at the Glasgow Open, the French Open and the KNZB Challenger. Their final training camp before Rio will go from July 20th-30th in Sardinia, Italy.
