Caeleb Dressel dipped under 18 seconds yet again in the 200 medley relay final, splitting 17.93, while Ryan Held came up with his lifetime-best split at 18.13.

Dressel has now been under 18 seconds an astounding five times in his career from a relay start. This morning, he hit the best split in recorded history at 17.71. He’s tied with Vlad Morozov for the second-best split ever with his 17.86 from SECs. Dressel was 17.99 on the 200 free relay at this meet and also a 17.90 from a relay at SECs. Tonight’s swim checks in as the fourth-fastest split on record, helping Florida to 5th place overall

Meanwhile NC State’s Ryan Held came up with one of the top splits ever at 18.13 anchoring NC State to 6th place.

Other notable splits from tonight’s 200 medley relay:

• Connor Oslin had a 20.39 backstroke split to lead the field. The fastest split ever on record is a 20.20 from Ryan Murphy last year. Murphy was 20.47 for Cal.
• Two breaststrokers broke 23. Will Licon was 22.91 for Texas and Fabian Schwingenschlogl was 22.93 for Missouri.
• Joseph Schooling was just off his own fastest 50 fly split in history, splitting 19.45 tonight. He was 19.39 last year, the fastest on record.
• Besides Dressel and Held, Zane Waddell was 18.26 anchoring for Alabama, which took 2nd with a stellar swim. Brett Ringgold was 18.34 anchoring for Texas, who won the relay and broke the U.S. Open record.
