Sophie Duncan from Bethesda, Maryland has announced her verbal commitment to the Stanford University class of 2026 where she will join fellow commits Gigi Johnson and Kirsti McEnroe.

Duncan is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Holton-Arms School in Bethesda. She swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and competed in the 200/400 IM at Olympic Trials Wave II, placing 30th in each. In SCY, she is a sub-4:10/sub-2:00 IMer who has dropped about 5 seconds in the 400 since last spring. She is also strong in the 200 back, 200 fly, and 200/500/1650 free. Her range, as well as her 400 IM time that would already score at NCAAs (it took 4:09.81 to make it back to the B final at the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships), made her our #17 recruit from the high school class of 2022.
In high school swimming, Duncan was runner-up in both the 500 free (4:51.37) and 200 IM (2:00.43) as a sophomore at the 2020 Washington Metros, and in the 200 free (1:50.63) and 500 free (4:55.31) as a freshman in 2019.
Duncan would have been Stanford’s third-fastest 400 IM in the 2020-21 season behind Brooke Forde and Hannah Kukurugya, both of whom are graduating seniors. She will join Janelle Rudolph in the IM group and Isabel Gormley in distance freestyle. Duncan is not far off scoring at NCAAs in the 500 free (4:43.16) and has a little way to go in the 1650 free (16:13.59), 200 IM (it took 1:57.13), 200 back (1:53.67) and 200 fly (1:55.60).

My bet is on Curzan and Hook.
I’d say Hook. Not Curzan. Surprising with Hook though, especially after what Greg’s done to some of our best 200Fly swimmers recently. Drabot 2:06–>2:10, Noordman 2:07–>2:11
I hope Hook goes somewhere like Texas or Florida.
I agree. Although I think she was originally between Texas, NC State, and Stanford. I just have a feeling she’s going to land at Stanford. Curzan hopefully UVA but I think she’s leaning NC State.

How about looking at how Drabot got to 2.06 before renting? She was training under Meehan. Would you give him the credit then?
Lilli Nordmann hasn’t enrolled yet at Stanford. So Meehan shouldn’t have been responsible for her time not dropping, no?
Tnp101- Of course he gets the 2:06 credit, but he also gets credit for the regressing. Nordmann has been training there for over a year now, just not enrolled yet. She went there a year ago just to train.

What about Bella Sims. She is #7 and remains uncommitted? Where is she leaning towards?
She’s class of 2023. I think she’s #1 there.

Most of the other top D1 schools have already filled their 2022 classes. Stanford asks their athletes to wait until they get either an early admissions decision or some other indication that they’ll likely get accepted academically.
