Kredich Named Head Coach of Combined Tennessee Program

Tennessee Women’s Swimming & Diving coach Matt Kredich has made probably the biggest splash in the coach in carousel so far, and he didn’t even have to leave home to do it.

Kredich was named the coach of the new combined Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Teams today, after John Trembley was fired mid-season last year.

The Volunteers now join the ranks of combined teams, with the move being made more feasible after the men’s and women’s athletic departments in Knoxville recently completing a full integration.

His Tennessee women were one of the huge surprises of the 2012 season, where they finished tied for 7th at NCAA’s and beat Florida in a dual meet. He has been the coach of the Volunteer women since 2005; before that he coached the women of Richmond and spent 9 years as the coach of a combined program at Brown.

The Tennessee men, led by Lars Jorgensen, came through the season fairly well ultimately under the circumstances, but after huge defections last season, the program is a far cry from its hey-day where they were one of the premier programs in the country.

I think it’s going to be a lot of fun watching the process of these teams integrate; and I think Kredich provides outstanding leadership and a huge ability to do so. Kredich seems to be universally liked in the swimming community, and with the facilities at Tennessee among the best top-to-bottom in the country, one wouldn’t imagine it would take long to get back to the Rocky-Mountain top.

TN women placing 7th was a huge surprise? I respectfully disagree.

Congrats to Matt. Definitely well deserved.

Congrats to Matt. He continues his climb to higher and higher levels in the coaching ranks.

Does anyone know if he is just going to restructure the current staff at TN or is he looking to bring in new people now that the program is combined?

Matt is an awesome guy and a great coach. Can’t wait to see the TN combined program thrive under his leadership.

Great hire. I am not a fan of combined programs, but if they want to combine, Matt is a great coach and leader. Now with a full complement of assistants!
