Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Kate Morris from Glen Ellyn, Illinois has announced her intention to swim at the University of Virginia in the class of 2025. She’ll join Abby Kapeller, Caroline Pennington, Ella Bathurst, and Reilly Tiltmann on the roster in the fall of 2021.
“I am extremely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Virginia! I am so beyond grateful for all the support from my family, coaches, friends, and teachers throughout this entire journey! Go Hoos!!💙🧡 #shift2021 #wahoowa”
Morris ranks 19th on our Way Too Early list of girls from the high school class of 2021. A junior at Glenbard West High School, she is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American who specializes in the shorter end of the freestyle range. At the 2018 IHSA Girls State Championship last fall, Morris won the 200 free (1:49.68) and placed 5th in the 100 free (50.78). She also swam a 24.88 butterfly split on the consolation-winning 200 medley relay and a 23.50 anchor in prelims on the 200 free relay. Morris swims year-round for BR Ryall NW Dupage YMCA. She was runner-up in the 50 free (22.90) and the 200 free (1:46.75) at 2019 YMCA Short Course Nationals. She also finaled in the 100 free (5th with 50.19) and 100 fly (9th with 54.68) and split 24.60 on the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay, 49.14 on the 400 free relay, and 22.70 on the 200 free relay. The 100 fly and 200 free were PBs. This summer at Long Course YNats, she won the 200m free (2:02.18), was runner-up in the 50m free (26.57) and 100m free (56.96), and placed 9th in the 100m fly (1:02.95). She finished the meet with new times in all 4 events.
Morris will be an immediate-impact player for the Cavaliers, with ACC-scoring times in the 50 and 200 freestyles and 100 fly. It took 22.81/49.74/1:48.91 in the 50/100/200 and 54.78 in the 100 fly to make C-finals at the 2019 conference meet.
Best SCY times:
- 200 free – 1:46.75
- 100 free – 49.83
- 50 free – 22.81
- 100 fly – 54.68

UVA’s bravado I’m sure gets old to some (even me with 2 degrees from Charlottesville), but can we not dislike a comment congratulating a swimmer on her obvious success with swimming and academics? Geez.
Congratulations Kate!! #wahoowa
why is everyone basically only committing to nc state and Virginia
But, congratulations Kate!!
It is interesting that out of all of the talented athletes committing daily there are only a few schools getting posts?
Are you suggesting a Swimswam deep state? Seems like every top recruit gets their fame…. Just so happens that they have largely gone to a few school. Wisconsin, NC state and UVa have had a good run recently.? As far as I can tell Swimswam doesn’t discriminate….. they moderate me too!
Looking at the front page I see LSU, UVA, Louisville, OSU, Nebraska and the next page UVA,TAMU, ASU, UK, UGA, VT, IU, MSU, UCLA, CAL. UF, Tenn, NCSU, and IU had a good run a few weeks ago where it seemed like they were the only one getting posts. Swimswam can’t post about every single commit as it happens, many of these are a few days old that they are just now posting.
Or weeks
Congratulations…. I think it was Horace Greeley who said “Go West” but I believe it was Desorbo who said “Come East”! Hoos are on a roll!
Go UVA
BOOM! The Party Is Just Starting! #anotherone #hoosontop
Welcome to the Top Academic Experience on the Planet!

Congratulations to the Hoos! It must be the amazing education that is drawing so many fast swimmers to the 122nd ranked (according to SwimSwam’s own calculator) team in the country for improvement!
For women, UVA was second in the ACC for improvement last year behind Duke (median improvement of 0.39%) according to swimswam’s own calculator:
https://staging.swimswam.com/swimulator/?type=improvement&gender=Women&division=D1&conference=ACC+%28Atlantic+Coast%29&season=2019
For “All”, which I assume is from 2013-2019 (though which UVA went 2 coaching changes), UVA was second in the ACC behind ND, according to swimswam’s own calculator (median improvement 0.39%):
https://staging.swimswam.com/swimulator/?type=improvement&gender=Women&division=D1&conference=ACC+%28Atlantic+Coast%29&season=All
So if they really are “122nd” and they are second best in the ACC, then the ACC is a smoking pile of garbage for swimmer improvement.
I’ve checked your math and your logic – everything seems to be in order. Conclusion accepted!
“The top academic experience on the planet”.
All Souls College, Oxford: “Hold my port”.
Tennessee is a better school than Virginia hands down
Deleted my comment on another comment since it’s not relevant to a commitment announcement.
Congrats to Kate!
Global ranking for UVa:

“Top academic experience in the planet” indeed.
