2014 CARIFTA Championships Set to Begin Tuesday in Aruba

The 2014 CARIFTA Swimming Championships will pit the best juniors of Caribbean Swimming against each other in 11-12, 13-14, and 15-17 age groups. The meet will take place in Savaneta, Aruba and will serve as a qualifying event for both the Youth Olympic Games and the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships as well.

The meet is being live-streamed here by the host Aruba Swimming Federation.

Many of the stars of this meet actually live and train in different countries. That includes names like Dustin Tynes of the Baylor Swim Club, who has long course breaststroke bests of 1:05.3 and 2:26.06 and represented his native Bahamas at last year’s Junior World Championships.

Trinidad & Tobago will send a strong group of 15-17 boys that includes Jabari Baptiste and David McLeod.

There are other Bahamians like Dionisio Carey from Virginia Swimming that swam for Saint Andrews in Boca Raton and now swims for Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. He qualified for Youth Olympics Backstroke and was 5th in Viginia State 100 Backstroke.

It is also a new 15-17 national record bettering the 57.07 set by Brad Hamilton on July 16,2007 at the PAN AM Games .It is also just off the Senior National of 56.48 set by Brad Hamilton on July 29,2011 in Shanghai China at the Swimming World Championships
