2014 Commonwealth Pool Preparing to Reopen Following Renovations

The Tollcross International Swim Centre in Glasgow, Scotland will reopen to the public tomorrow following a £13.8 million revamp for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.  The 19-month project, funded by the Glasgow City Council (£13.15 million) and Sportscotland (£650,000), included a makeover to the 10-lane 50-meter competition pool, as well as construction of a brand new six-lane 50-meter warm-up pool.

The renovations doubled the permanent seating capacity to 2,000 spectators, with additional space for up to 3,000 temporary seats for the Games, making it one of the largest swim facilities in Europe.

The Swim Centre will also be used for the 2015 Paralympic World Swimming Championships, and it is also at the heart of Glasgow’s bid to host the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
