Sitting 9th on the medal table with just two bronze medals after day 1 of European Championships, Great Britain rocketed to the top ranks on Tuesday, scoring 7 total medals, three of them gold, to lead all nations.
All three of those golds came from rising stars Chris Walker-Hebborn, who won the 100 back, and Adam Peaty, who won the 100 breast. The two combined to help the mixed 4×100 medley relay take gold to close the session.
France is now second in the medal tally, getting gold from Florent Manaudou in the 50 fly, a race in which he tied Yauhen Tsurkin for the win. Tsurkin brought home Belarus’s first medal of any kind from these 2014 European Championships.
Sweden also has two golds, courtesy of Sarah Sjostrom. The speedster won the 50 fly today after helping Sweden to a relay win on night 1.
So far 14 different countries have cracked the medal table just two days and 10 pool events in.
Note: Gold, silver and bronze medal totals don’t add up the same due to the tie for the men’s 50 fly gold and bronze medals.

Russia still leads the overall medal table, thanks to its great success in synchronized swimming and the two diving events that went off today. Russia won gold in the women’s platform synchro diving event, and took silver in the men’s 1-meter springboard.
Great Britain’s big pool haul propelled them to second in the overall table, with 4 golds and 10 total medals. The Netherlands is third with three golds. Though the host nation of Germany has accumulated 10 total medals (second-highest of any nation), only two have been gold thus far.
