The women’s only meet at the Mountain West Championship began tonight with the 200 medley relay, 1m diving and 800 freestyle. After night one, Nevada is out with an early lead of 107 points; Boise State is second with 88, San Diego State in third at 80 points.
200 Medley Relay
San Diego State had the first win of the night in the medley relay with a time of 1:37.97, an NCAA ‘A’ cut. Anika Apostalo, Laura Day, Samantha Guttmacher and Whitney Weisz teamed up with splits of 24.54, 27.76, 23.72 and 21.95 to top Boise State.
BSU was close behind in second at 1:38.21. Their butterflier Brittany Aoyama had a impressive 23.00 split. New Mexico was third at 1:38.49. All
Boise State’s medley relay would return back to the pool for a time trial, where they would finish in 1:37.75 to get the NCAA A time standard.
800 Freestyle Relay
San Diego State went two-for-two in relays, topping the field by five seconds. Frida Berggren, Mikaela Macklin, Natilee Ruiz and Savannah teamed up to finish at 7:06.64, an NCAA ‘A’ cut.
Berggren lead off in a 1:47.65, and Macklin got out fast and split a quick 1:44.59. Ruiz and Miller backed halved it in 1:46 & 1:47 respectively for the win.
Nevada was second in 7:11.87 and Boise State was third in 7:13.73. Notably Sita Kusserow, the lead off from Nevada, split 1:47.39.
Diving – 1m
Nevada had three in the top eight, finish first with En-tien Huang, plus third and sixth. That was a big point scorer for them, putting them into the lead after the first night. Boise State had three in the top sixteen (1 up, 2 down); SDSU had none.
