2014 MPSF Conference Night 3

Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Men and Women

• Dates: Wednesday, February 19th – Saturday, February 22nd (Co-Ed); prelims 10:30AM/Finals 6PM

Davis has the control of the women’s meet with 489 points. There is a tight battle for second and third with BYU at 420.5 and Santa Barbara at 420. On the men’s side BYU has begun to run away with the meet, with 504 points. Hawaii is second at 410.

400 IM

Women – 
UCSB went 1-2 with senior Allison Knight winning the event in 4:16.44. Her teammates junior Heren Alania was just behind her at 4:16.74. Keena Lineback of San Diego rounded out the top three, just under 4:20 at 4:19.28.

Men –
Brigham Young and Hawaii split the heat, with three swimmers each. BYU was able to get the 1-2 finish with Rafa Alfaro and Hayden Palmer finishing at 3:48.29 and 3:50.18. Alfaro was just off the MPSF meet record of 3:47.07.

Hawaii got the third spot with Sam Bryant at 3:53.14. BYU had the 4th spot, with Hawaii at 5th and 6th.

100 Butterfly

Women –
Santa Barbra’s senior Andrea Ward won the event in 52.27, just.3 off the ” standard of 51.90. Davis freshman Hilvy Cheung was second at 53.19, coming back to beat BYU senior Kim Doroghian. She finished third at 53.73.

Ward set a new MPSF record in prelims, with a time of 51.92 – just .02 off the A cut.

Men –
Hawaii touched with the win here with Karl-Richard Hennebach winning in 47.82.

Lucas Aquino and Jordan Fletcher went 2-4 for BYU at 48.13 and 49.06. Pacific had the third spot with Dai Wilson at 48.19.

200 Freestyle

Women –
The women of Hawaii notched a win with Jasmine Alkhaldi. She controlled the race wire-to-wire to win in 1:47.17. She was just off Katie Edwards record of 1:47.11 from last year.

Edwards was second at 1:48.05, and her Davis teammate was third, 1:48.72.

Men –
Victor Goicoecha led a 1-2-3-4 sweep from Hawaii here. He finished at 1:36.07. His teammates Eduardo Guimaracs, 1:36.65, Yuri Samouilich, 1:37.01, and Kasey Johnson, 1:38.93.

BYU had no A final swimmers, as Pacific grabbed the 5th and 6th spots.

100 Breaststroke

Women –
Davis senior Liliana Alvarez is the MPSF record holder in this event, and she was very close to her 1:00.47 mark with a winning time tonight of 1:00.89.

UCSB finished 2-3 with Katie REcord at 1:01.66 and Carissa Metcalf at 1:02.40.

Men –
Hawaii’s Paulo dePaula made it a three event sweep with a win here at 53.00. The ‘A’ standard is 52.54, leaving dePaula just off but in reach of an invite to NCAAs.

Pacific was second with Cameron Franke, 54.35, and BYU was 3-4-5 with Chad Sorensen, 54.88, Michael King, 55.39, and Andrew Rutherfurd, 55.42.

100 Backstroke

Women –
Senior Hailey Campbell set a new MPSF record, breaking her own record from last year, with a 53.20. She was 53.45 last year for the previous mark.

Loyola was second with Kjirsten Magnuson, 54.90, and Haley Preston of Pacific was third, 55.22.

Men –
Jake Taylor of BYU set a new men’s record in the backstroke race, also besting his own record. He finished in 46.67, bettering his 46.90 from prelims.

His teammate Rainer Ng was third at 48.33. Hawaii finished second with Ali Maclean, 47.98.

400 Medley Relay

Women –
UCSB had the win and new MPSF record with Allison Knight, Katie Records, Andrew Ward and Sophia Yamauchi. They finished in 3:38.68, just .2 better than the previous record in 2013. 

Davis was second, 3:41.23 and BYU at third, 3:43.22.

Men –
Hawaii won the event in 3:12.04 with Ali Maclean, Paulo dePaulo, Karl-Richard Hennebach and Yuri Samouilich.
