Day Two

They are halfway through the Women’s Ivy League Swimming and Diving Championship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The three-meter diving prelims are taking place right now, and the 1000s will begin later this afternoon, but the other swimming events are in the books.

Day Two was expected to be a big point-winner for Harvard and Columbia, with a number of their strongest events taking place today. From the psych sheet one would have expected Harvard to be out front by a large margin, and Columbia moving into second place by the 100 breast. A lot remains to be played out –the 1000s are being swum this afternoon and anything can happen in finals– but one thing is clear: the score is going to be a lot closer than those early predictions would have suggested.

Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Penn all picked up considerable “points” in this morning’s prelims, which should make for an interesting battle tonight for the middle of the standings table.
