WOMEN’S 4×100 FREE RELAY

  • WR: 3:30.98 Australia (AUS) 24 JUL 2014 Glasgow (GBR)
  • WJ: 3:40.14 United States (USA) 29 AUG 2014 Maui (USA)
  • CR: 3:41.40 Russia (RUS) 30 AUG 2013 Dubai (UAE)

Finishing with a time of 3:42.94, Team USA sits in 1st after prelims of the women’s 4×100 free relay. The team consisted of Kenisha Liu (55.82), Beata Nelson (56.20), Samantha Shelton (55.93), and Lauren Pitzer (54.99). Pitzer’s sub-55 split was the fastest of anyone this morning.

Russia came in 2nd this morning after a 55.87 lead-off from Daria Ustinova. Their 3:44.54 was enough to beat out Australia’s time (3:44.96), who had a 55.24 flat start from Shayna Jack.

Canada (3:45.51) took 4th overall, with a 55.27 anchor from Taylor Ruck. After clocking a 53.9 in the 100 free earlier in the meet, Ruck will be a big asset for her team tonight if they want to take home a medal in this relay. Japan was 5th behind them with a 55.87 anchor from Rikako Ikee.

China, Brazil, and Germany will also compete in the final.

Top 8: USA, RUS, AUS, CAN, JPN, CHN, BRA, GER.

WOMEN’S 1500 FREE

  • WR: 15:25.48 Katie Ledecky (USA) 4 AUG 2015 Kazan (RUS)
  • WJ: 15:28.36 Katie Ledecky (USA) 24 AUG 2014 Gold Coast (AUS)
  • CR: 16:18.83 Tjasa Oder (SLO) 20 AUG 2011 Lima (PER)

There were 2 women under 16:40 in the early heats of the women’s 1500. Canada’s Olivia Anderson had the fastest time, coming in at 16:37.03. Anderson was trailed closely by Hungary’s Janka Juhasz all the way through heat 3. Juhasz posted a 16:38.31 for 2nd overall this morning.

Because this is a timed final, if someone falls short of their seed time tonight at finals and posts a time slower than Anderson and Juhasz, they will move up in the overall rankings. On paper, it looks like it will take a 16:35.03 to make the top 8. That time belongs to Russia’s Anastasiia Kirpichnikova.

Race of the day is for me the boys’ 400 IM.
Almeida vs Grieshop
😎

Andrew’s 50 fly will be interesting too. Can win his second individual gold and also break the world junior record of 23.61. I’m not sure that’s the true world record but that’s the official world record ratified by FINA so far.

Would agree CAN likely favourites then RUS. Case of “least worst” for bronze between USA & AUS.

Your sub3.40 looks plausible due to Ruck & Oleksiak lifting a couple of gears when it counts but it will depend on the weaker links.

His 800 was not a good race. He went 600 meters then at the end decided to swim fast
His last 100 was faster than the first!

Rafael,
it is his race strategy.Like or not, is how he swims his races.
In 400IM its more or less the same way.He is among the last guys in fly, normally 58-59s, a better back, a very good breast and a fantastic crawl. In 1500free, the same, doing 3-2-1 in his 500 splits.

No no no, grieshop is notorious for going out fast. I recall seeing his best mile with him going out in like 6 or 6:01 at the 600 and going in the 15:20s

Almeida was hurting after the heats. I don’t know if he’ll come close to that WJ record.

Don’t know for sure, but if his 800 free is a statement of his shape, yes.(He was more than two seconds below his former PB).

I’m pleasantly surprised. Didn’t expect that from Cassidy after her 200 fly and 50 fly bad performances.
Cool. Hopefully she can win a medal tomorrow.

Rooney split that pretty well. 24.75, 25.5. Definitely think he has a lot more in the tank.

He already swam a ton of races… I think a 48.7 is a good bet.

Chalmers and Rooney had to charge hard the last 25m to go 50.2. Both way behind at the 50
