2015 Men’s NCAA Championships: Day Two Prelims Scoring Projections

Texas claimed a lead after one day of competition, and now after the prelims session on day two they’re projected to extend that lead over California.

Note: Scoring predictions do not include the 800 free relay or the 3-meter event.

With 171 points already scored, Texas is entering day two finals with the projection to score 185 more. They have someone in the championship final of every event tonight besides the 100 breaststroke, where their breaststroker Austin Temple secured a ‘B’ final position.

The most impressive result for Texas came in the 100 fly where they took six out of eight ‘A’ final spots. They’re projected to score 91 points in the event with the potential for 95. Barring a disqualification, the minimum amount of points the Longhorns can get in the 100 fly is 81.

California, their closest competitor after day one, is projected to score the second highest amount of points with a grand total of 137. They currently sit in second place with 119 points, and will fall even farther behind if they’re unable to score more points than Texas tonight. It’s looking as though Texas will extend their lead however, meaning that Cal is going to have to put forth a mean day three if they want any sort of shot at the title.

The battle for third is also heating up. Based on results from this morning, Michigan should pass Florida tonight to be ranked third by eight points going into the final day of competition. Current sixth ranked USC should also move up on Florida, tying them with a grand total of 171 points. Georgia had a big day. They were ranked ninth but could crack the top five if they do what they have the potential to do tonight. With 73 points on the line, Georgia would be ranked sixth after USC and Florida.
