2015 Women’s NCAA DI Championships: Graphical Analysis Of Team Race

With two days remaining before the start of the 2015 Women’s NCAA Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, we wanted to put together a few graphs to help keep track of the team race. Each graph is broken up by day to see how strong each team is in an event. We included the top 4 teams after scoring out the psych sheets. California is expected to win the meet, based on the swimming psych sheet alone, but four teams will be within reach. The defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs are seeded second, Stanford is expected to finish third, and Virginia is in position to finish fourth.

We made our best effort to predict the results of diving as well based on last year’s results and the results from the Zone Championships. Below is a picture of a graph for each day and below it is a chart with the specific numbers for the above graph.

We will use these graphs throughout the meet to compare how each team does during the meet, comparing their expected points from the psych sheet to the actual points scored in the meet.

i think it would be cool to compare data from past years. like how it was predicted and then how it turned out to see how accurate these predictions can be. the past few years it look like cal was going to win by a large margin on paper but Georgia ended up winning by about 100 points the past two years. Cal ended up getting second in 2013 and then third last year right behind Stanford

Y’all should analyze every meet this way. For visual learners (like me), it’s a really neat way to see the psych sheet. And as far as the team race goes, it makes things MUCH more understandable!

This is neat. I would like to see the actual data overlayed on these graphs as the meet progresses to graphically see the deviations of these teams, i.e., who is under and over performing… a great visual!!

That’s a pretty cool way to look at the psych sheet! So, it looks like the psych sheet says Cal doesn’t even have to compete on the final day … excited to see what the other top teams bring to NCAAs!
