2015 World Championships Pick ‘Em: Campbell, Britain Post Day 6 Upsets

Congratulations to RedFish, our Day 6 winner of the 2015 FINA World Championships Pick ‘Em Contest (presented by TYR)!  RedFish finished with 32 points for the session, including a correct 1-2-3 pick in the 200 breaststroke (one of just four contestants to do so).

Day 6 saw just one swimmer outside the top 8 finish in the top four: Spain’s Jessica Vall, who finished in a rarely-seen three-way tie for bronze in the women’s 200 breaststroke.  Despite the top-heavy finishes, average scores weren’t pretty:

Day 6, by the numbers:

Total possible points: 64
Contestant average: 15.4

Standard deviation: 3.5
(66% of contestants were between 18.9 and 11.9 points)

  • Just three readers (RedFish, ira, and aaaaaa1995) picked Mitch Larkin to win the 200 backstroke.  Ryosuke Irie (215 of 430 first place picks) and Tyler Clary (132) were our readers’ top choices
  • Just one reader (RUPERT) picked Great Britain to win the men’s 800 free relay.  Team USA (362 picks) was the heavy favorite
  • Nobody picked Bronte Campbell to win the women’s 100 free.  Her older sister Cate Campbell (299 picks) and Sarah Sjostrom (89) had most of the fan love before the race
  • Just 11 readers had Micah Lawrence finishing in the top 2 of the women’s 200 breast

John26 continues to hold the lead on the field with 173 total points.  Swimdork (169 points) remains in second.
