2016 CANADIAN OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC TRIALS

Tonight at the Canadian Paralympic Trials we’ll see the 100 fly and the 50 fly contested. The 100 fly is for categories S8-14 and the 50 fly will be S1-7. In the 50 fly we saw a world record this morning from Tammy Cunnington in the S4 category. She’ll look to improve her time of 53.10 tonight.

Women’s 100m Butterfly PARA S8-14 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Samantha Ryan, 1:10.35, S10
  2. Katarina Roxon, 1:14.51, S9
  3. Morgan Bird, 1:20.60, S8

Samantha Ryan came away with the win in the women’s 100 fly, improving her time from this morning touching in 1:10.35. Her times moves her into 2nd in the world in the S10 category. Katarina Roxon improved her morning swim by nearly a second, touching in 1:14.51 keeping her at 10th in the world in the S9 category. Morgan Bird was 3rd in 1:20.60, good for 4th in the world in the S8 category.

Men’s 100m Butterfly PARA S8-14 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Alexander Elliot, 58.24, S10
  2. Philippe Vachon, 1:07.93, S9
  3. Zach Zona, 1:11.14, S8

Alexander Elliot defended his top seed tonight, just missing his morning time and Canadian record in 58.24. His morning time has him 1st in the world in the S10 category. Philippe Vachon was 2nd in 1:07.93, and Zach Zona was 3rd in 1:11.14. Vachon is now 10th in the world in the S9 category, while Zona is 12th in the S8 category.

Women’s 50m Butterfly PARA S1-7 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Tammy Cunnington, 52.90, S4
  2. Sarah Mehain, 37.89, S7
  3. Shelby Newkirk, 41.15, S7

Tanny Cunnington lowered her own S4 50 fly world record she set this morning, going 52.90 for the win. Sarah Mehain (37.89) and Shelby Newkirk (41.15) finished 2nd and 3rd. Both compete in the S7 category.

Men’s 50m Butterfly PARA S1-7 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Jean-Michel Lavalliere, 33.64, S7
  2. Nathan Clement, 34.28, S6
  3. Kyle McMahon, 38.79, S7

Jean-Michel Lavalliere defended his top seed in the men’s 50 fly, touching in 33.64 for the win. Nathan Clement is 2nd in 34.28, and Kyle McMahon was 3rd in 38.79. Lavalliere now sits 3rd in the world in the S7 category, McMahon is 10th in the same category, while Clement is now 4th in the S6 category.
