On the second last night of finals action at the Canadian Paralympic Trials we’ll see the backstroke events contested, with the 50 and 100 backstroke events on the docket. The 100 back will start the session off, and the 50 back will close things off. The athletes will finally receive the announcement of whether or not they qualified for the Paralympic team tomorrow night after the final session.

Women’s 100m Backstroke PARA S1-2, S6-14 Multi-Class Finals

1. Aurelie Rivard, 1:11.72, S10
2. Justine Morrier, 1:17.60, S14
3. Kirstie Kasko, 1:18.36, S14

Aurlie Rivard picked up her 4th win of the meet in the 100 back, touching in 1:11.72, putting her 4th in the world in the S10 category. Justine Morrier (1:17.60) and Kirstie Kasko (1:18.36) finished 2nd and 3rd, moving them into 7th and 8th in the world in the S14 category.

Men’s 100m Backstroke PARA S2, S6-14 Multi-Class Finals

1. Nicolas Turbide, 1:00.31, S13
2. Benoit Huot, 1:01.33, S10
3. Gordie Michie, 1:05.34, S14

Nicolas Turbide broke his own Canadian record in the men’s 100 back S13, touching in 1:00.31 for the win. Close behind was runner-up Benoit Huot who touched in 1:01.33, and Gordie Michie was 3rd in 1:05.34. Turbide moves into 2nd in the world in S13, Huot also moves into 2nd in the S10 category, and Michie moves into 5th in the S14 category.

Women’s 50m Backstroke PARA S1-5 Multi-Class Finals

1. Tammy Cunnington, 1:12.99, S4
2. Emily De Boer, 1:05.13, S5
3. Valerie Drapeau, 1:06.21, S5

Tammy Cunnington picked up yet another win, claiming the 50 back in 1:12.99. That swim puts Cunnington 3rd in the world in the S4 category. Emily De Boer (1:05.13) and Valerie Drapeau (1:06.21) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, both in the S5 category. They hold their positions at 8th and 9th in the world for 2016.

Men’s 50m Backstroke PARA S1-5 Multi-Class Finals

1. Riley McLean, 57.88, S4
2. Danial Murphy, 52.86, S5
3. Andrew Cooke, 55.07, S5

Riley McLean took the win in the men’s 50 back, touching in 57.88. His time ranks him 7th in the world in the S4 category. Danial Murphy (52.86) and Andrew Cooke (55.07) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Murphy and Cooke now rank 14th and 16th in the world in the S5 category. Murphy also broke the national record in the event.
