2016 Eastern Zone Spring Sectionals Psych Sheet Preview

Starting today there are three different Speedo Sectional competitions taking place for the Eastern Zone of USA Swimming. Below is a brief highlight of each meet’s top competitors and its respective psych sheet links.

2016 Speedo Sectionals Spring Short Course
March 31-April 3, 2016, Ithaca, NY (hosted by Syracuse Chargers) – Psych Sheet

The only short course yards competition of the three will feature some of the quickest teenagers on the eastern seaboard. The first of two high-ranked 14 year-olds to compete in Ithaca is distance starlet Erin Quinn of Nation’s Capital Swim Club. She tops the field in the 1000 free (10:14.01) and occupies second seed in the 200 free (1:51.19) and 500 free (4:58.29). The other is Katherine Douglass of Westchester Aquatic Club. Douglass holds the quickest marks in several events including the 50 free (22.67), 100 breast (1:02.14), 200 breast (2:12.81), and 200 IM (2:01.67). Her 100 free (50.32) is the only race to not have her at the top of the list . In the men’s races, Jason Arthur of the Jersey Flyers Aquatic Club leads with the highest placements in the 100 back (48.86), 200 fly (1:50.57), 200 back (1:46.78), 200 IM (1:48.64), and 400 IM (3:55.20).

2016 Speedo Sectionals Long Course Region 2 (South)
March 31-April 3, 2016, Richmond, VA (hosted by Poseidon Swimming) – Psych Sheet

The most southern-located meet of the Speedo Sectionals series will feature Brendan McHugh of Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club as the highest-ranked breaststroker coming in with a 1:00.50 in his 100 and 2:12.81 in his 200. On the distance side, Arthur Markley of Lancaster Aquatic Club sits atop the 400 free (4:04.06) and the 800 free (8:21.40) and third in the 1500 free (16:11.78). Markley also has solid placement in the 200 fly with his 2:04.08. Swimming in her home pool, Poseidon Swimming’s Casey Fanz controls both the sprints as her 25.72 and 56.36 dominate the 50 and 100 free, respectively.

2016 Speedo Sectionals Long Course Region 1 (North)
March 31-April 3, 2016, Buffalo, NY (hosted by Star Swimming) – Psych Sheet

Berkley Aquatics’ Erica Wirth is the front-runner on the women’s distance frees coming in with top seeds in the 400 free (4:19.48) and 800 free (8:48.95), and a second-place showing in the 1500 free (16:59.53). Jonathan Gomez of Scarlet Aquatics enters the meet with a grueling duo: the 200 fly and 400 IM. Gomez ranks those fields with the only 2-minute 200 fly (1:59.90) and a 4:25.24 400 IM. The other two notable contenders competing in Buffalo are Ky-lee Perry of the Wilton Y Wahoos and unattached swimmer Wyatt Ubellacker. Perry’s meet line-up places her as the quickest 50 freestyler (25.77) and 100 freestyler (56.31). Ubellacker’s events – the 50 free (22.27), 100 free (50.01), and 100 fly (54.01) – garner him those events’ top times.
