2016 Men’s NCAA Division I Championships
- March 23-26, 2016
- Host: Georgia Tech (Atlanta, Georgia)
The NCAA has released the pre-selection psych sheets for the 2016 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships.
These sheets, while not confirming who will receive an invitation to this year’s championship meet, do give details about who will swim what individual events.
On Wednesday, the full invite lists will be posted. Last year, 29 athletes were chosen in each individual event, along with two swimmers from the 30 line.
The Texas men are the defending champions, and upon first glance will be heavy favorites to repeat as such.
Throughout Wednesday, we will continue to break down the psych sheets and highlight interesting entries, as well as project team scores and attempt to identify where the invite line will fall.
NC have 3 of the top 6 entries into the the 200free so i cant imagine them losing the 800free relay?
has anyone scored it out yet?
Don’t be scared……..
How’s the OTC zings?
Smart move by Texas. This could be the first year that one team win all relays! With Schooling in all 5 relays, Texas will win all of them!
Hard to imagine NC State losing a couple of those freestyle relays
Agreed NC State is a freight train, no one else has 2 people below 19 in their 50, no one has two people below 42 either as far as I remember. NC state also has the fastest 200 freestylers, their only weakness is the medley.
Are you allowed to swim in 5 relays? And, is Joe one of the best 4 in the 800 relay?
2 ind & 5 relays OR 3 ind & 4 relays
I wondered the same thing, but yes and yes. He’s gone 1:34-low numerous times unshaved, and 1:47 or 1:48 LCM. Trying to survive the 800 relay was a problem last year without Joe or Jack; Eddie even admitted as much in one of the post-championship interviews. If they move up a few spots in the 800 relay, I guess it’s about as many points as Joe might score in IM. Joe also seems to be one of those guys who always uncorks great efforts on relays…never seen a poor split from him.
Very interesting strategy, regardless!
If you only do 2 individual events, you can swim all 5 relays.
Yeah, I think they really want to use one of the two of Conger or Schooling on that relay. Out of their 1:34 guys, I’d guess Dunne tapered out for conference (though who knows with Eddie), Lewis scratched out after the 800 relay (sick or injured or what?) and Roberts will be coming off of a 400 IM.
8 Relay is on Wednesday
Ohhhhh, really? I must have missed that change. That takes away that nasty 3 200 free day a lot of guys have… Could see some rocket 8 free relays then.
Agreed regarding Dunne. Lewis’ times did look like he might be sick/injured…way off of his best. Last year, Roberts and Lewis were great contributors, but they held this relay back a little.
800 free relay is on Wednesday now, looking at the event site??? That would make tons of sense…swim both Conger and Schooling (with Haas and Smith) in that, and contend for 1st rather than 8th or whatever last year. Conger is unnecessary in the 200 medley relay and already has a double (100bk/100fly) that day anyway. 200 medley relay would be Shebat, Murray or Licon, Schooling, Ringgold. 200 free relay Schooling, Conger, Murray, Ringgold (maybe Jackson or Ellis if they’re hot). 400 medley relay Shebat, Licon, Schooling, and… Read more »
Yeah… that sets up a lot more options for Texas. Though swimming anything after a 400 IM (as Licon would have to do) is always tough. Speaking from experience 😛
Schooling in just two ind. events, swimming all the relays.
Long Guttierez doing the Tom shields double: 100 fly/2free
Jack Conger in the 100 back, 34th, will he make the cut?
As long as he makes the meet in one other event (see 100/200 fly) then he can swim any other event(s) that he has a B cut in. So, yes, he will be able to swim the 100 back.
Alright, I forgot about that.
Make the cut? No. But, he will swim the event since he is in for the 100 and 200 fly.
