Women’s 200-yard Freestyle Relay – Final
- NCAA DII: 1:30.57 3/12/2015 Drury
Wingate came from seemingly out of nowhere to win the women’s 200 free relay. Senior Armony Dumur led off with a 22.74, second only to 50 free champion Wen Xu of Drury (22.50). Senior Rita Koryukova followed with 23.56. Junior Caitlin Coughlin went 23.08 in the third position to hand off to senior Ana Fish with a cumulative 1:09.38. Fish was the sixth anchor to hit the water but she came home in 22.42 and stole the victory.
Wayne State (Lezlie Bueno Estrada, Emily Heitchue, Makayla Myers, and Ellyson Maleski) were runners-up in 1:32.00, just ahead of LIU Post (Laura Bendfeldt, Seren Jones, Joyce Kwok, and Meghan Brazier) at 1:32.07.

Men’s 200-yard Freestyle Relay – Final
- NCAA DII: 1:17.78 3/10/2016 Tampa
The Spartans of Tampa did it again. Tampa’s sprint depth was on display as Martin Hammer (19.71), Jordan Augier (19.15); Runar Borgen (19.23), and Jeremy Parker (19.18) blasted a 1:17.27 to take another half-second off the national record in the men’s 200 free relay.
Second place went to Drury’s Daniel Rzadkowski, Aaron Buckingham, Walter Ross, and Rodrigo Caceres.
Lindenwood sophomore Serghei Golban lowered his own NCAA DII national record in the 50 free, one that he set in finals on Wednesday with 19.35, leading off the Lions’ relay in 19:18. Lindenwood (Golban, Michal Szczukowski, Jared Thornton, and Ross Watson) placed third with 1:19.73.

Women’s 400-yard Individual Medley – Final
- NCAA DII: 4:12.47 3/10/2016 Patricia Castro Ortega, Queens (NC)
Queens senior Patri Castro Ortega lowered her own NCAA DII record from the morning session by another 3.9 seconds with a stunning 4:08.56 final swim. Wingate junior Sofia Petrenko, who finished second in 4:14.40, which was under the pre-Castro Ortega meet mark, was out first in the fly. Castro Ortega took over with the first 50 of backstroke, and built her lead from there. Petrenko was the only one in the field who was anywhere near Castro Ortega, though.
Rebecca Matthews of Lynn, who was seventh after backstroke, outsplit the field by a wide margin in the breaststroke and moved to third, almost catching Petrenko. But the Wingate junior had another gear left and was able to close with a 58.7 freestyle to hang on to second. Matthews held off Drury senior Gretchen Stein to get the bronze medal.

Men’s 400-yard Individual Medley – Final
- NCAA DII: 3:43.84 3/12/2015 Nick Arakelian, Queens (NC)
Defending champion and NCAA record-holder, sophomore Nick Arakelian of Queens, went wire-to-wire at the front of the pack and touched three body lengths ahead in 3:44.63. He was only 8/10 off his national record, set at last year’s championship.
Lindenwood freshman Cristian Vasquez used a strong breaststroke leg to move ahead of Truman State sophomore Will Shanel at the 300, and was able to hold him off over the final 100 to finish second in 3:48.42. Shanel took third with 3:49.23. Northern Michigan freshman Ryan Leonard had a strong swim for fourth with 3:50.23.

Women’s 100-yard Butterfly – Final
- NCAA DII: 52.42 3/12/2015 Armony Dumur, Wingate
Armony Dumur, the 2015 champion and current NCAA DII recordholder in the event, won the 100 fly in 52.52, exactly 1/10 off her national mark. LIU Post senior Joyce Kwok put up a good fight, but Dumur was out too fast over the first half for Kwok to make up the difference; she was runner-up with 52.91, a full 7/10 under her second-place finish from last year. West Florida junior Theresa Michalak had an even faster second half and finished third with 53.13.

Grand Valley senior Gianni Ferrero, runner-up in this event in 2015, left nothing to chance this year. He shot out with 21.04 at the 50, and still had a great back half, coming home in 24.52 for a final time of 45.56. Saint Leo senior Pawel Trenda, who placed seventh last year, was runner-up with 46.88. Grand Valley sophomore Gabriel Souza took third with 47.01, coming to the wall just in front of Florida Southern senior Edson Lima (47.12).

Women’s 200-yard Freestyle – Final
- NCAA DII: 1:45.27 3/12/2015 Patricia Castro Ortega, Queens
After a second-place finish in the 1000 free on Day One, Grand Valley junior Leonie Van Noort put together a terrific 200 free, breaking out with the best back half of the group. It was a crowded field, with nearly everyone turning together at the 50, and then again at the 100. Van Noort’s third 50 made the difference, and she edged out in front at the 150 turn. She then brought it home with a 26.8 sprint to win in 1:47.32. Queens sophomore Mckenzie Stevens edged Nova Southeastern junior Emma Wahlstrom for second place, 1:47.96 to 1:48.26. Darielle Watkins of UC San Diego came back from sixth at the 150 to fourth at the finish with the second-best final 50 in the field. Carson-Newman’s Margaret Stansberry moved from eighth after prelims to fifth in 1:48.66.
Wingate’s Petrenko had a tough 400 IM-200 free double but put up a strong 1:49.26 to win the consolation by a full second.

Men’s 200-yard Freestyle – Final

In an absolutely mind-blowing performance, Queens junior Dion Dreesens took down the NCAA Division II record in the men’s 200 free set by Matt Josa, also of Queens, in 2014. Dreesens erased 1.75 seconds from the mark, going 1:32.46 to blow the field away. That time ties Simonas Bilis of North Carolina State as the third-fastest 200 free in the nation for the season, and would have earned Dreesens a silver medal at the 2015 NCAA Division I Championships.
It was quite a performance: Dreesens went out in 21.28, turning at the 100 in 44.66. His second half was just as strong, splitting a pair of 23-highs and coming to the wall nearly three body lengths ahead of second-place Victory Polyakov, a junior from West Chester. Polyakov out-touched Simon Fraser sophomore Adrian VanderHelm for second, 1:35.11 to 1:35.18.
Thiago Sickert of Nova Southeastern was fourth with 1:35.52., just holding off Wingate sophomore Jerome Heidrich (1:35.82).

Grand Valley State freshman Brad Dalrymple won his first national title with 540.45 points on the 1-meter board. Defending champion, junior Collin Vest of Clarion, was runner-up with 538.05 points. St. Cloud State junior David Sufficool, who placed 15th last year, moved up to third with a final score of 522.40.

Women’s 400-yard Medley Relay – Final
- NCAA DII: 3:39.29 3/13/2014 Drury
It was another fierce battle in the middle lanes as Wingate and Queens raced for the 400 medley relay title. Junior Viktoriya Arkhipova got things started, putting the Bulldogs out front with a 54.12 leadoff 100 back. Junior Jessika Weiss split 1:01.48 on the breast, but Queens senior Brittney Phelan went 1:00.89 to put the Royals up by .31 going into the fly. Wingate senior and 100 fly winner Dumur crushed the field with her 52.57 and Wingate was back on top by .35. Junior Petrenko, after having swum in both the 400 IM and 200 free finals, nevertheless held off Queens’ Kyrie Dobson to earn the victory and the NCAA Division II record, splitting 49.63 for a final combined time of 3:37.80. Queens (Hannah Peiffer, Phelan, Castro Ortega and Dobson) also finished under the meet record with 3:38.18. LIU Post (Jones, Caitlin Johnstone, Kwok, and Brazier) touched out Delta State for third with 3:42.27.

Men’s 400-yard Medley Relay – Final
- NCAA DII: 3:08.07 3/12/2015 Queens (NC)
It was a thrilling way to end the session: Florida Southern and Queens trading stroke for stroke, barreling down the middle lanes of the pool. FSC’s Marco Palacios got a leg up on the entire field with his 46.27 backstroke leadoff; Queens’ Zack Phelps was almost a full second back. Florida Southern freshman Sean Kim went 52.89, about 4/10 slower than Fedyna Rostyslav of Queens, but enough to give senior Lima about a 6/10 lead heading into the fly. Lima split 46.31, just .05 faster than Dreesens. FSC senior Jesus Marin came home in 43.88, a little more than a half-second slower than Ben Mayes of Queens, but he was still able to get his hand to the wall first and give the Moccasins the victory, 3:09.35 to 3:09.39.
Nova Southeastern, meanwhile, came from behind to edge Lindenwood 3:10.71 to 3:10.84 for third. The Grand Valley quartet was disqualified, a big blow to the team that had been third in the standings and suddenly found itself fifth.
