Women’s Ups/Downs – Day Two
The big winners in the women’s meet on Day Two were UC San Diego, Nova Southeastern, Wayne State, Findlay and Wingate, all of whom improved their seedings relative to the psych sheet. Drury had a disappointing morning; in addition to being disqualified in the 400 medley relay, the Panthers didn’t have as many points in the 100 fly and 200 free as expected, although they did move up some in the 400 IM.
Wayne State, Wingate and Findlay had strong relay performances, while UCSD and Nova S’eastern surprised to the upside in the 100 fly and 200 free, respectively.

Men’s Ups/Downs – Day Two
Queens continued to outscore the psych sheet on Day Two, but they weren’t alone. Drury, Indianapolis, Limestone, Saint Leo, Tampa, Findlay and Wingate also had big mornings, and while most of the point increases relative to the psych seedings came from relays, Saint Leo, Limestone, Drury, and Findlay all did well with individual swimmers in the 100 fly. Cal Baptist and Lindenwood did better than expected in the IM.
Still, as they say, races are won in finals while championships are won in prelims, and so far Queens has done everything right – after the initial relay DQ. It’s a zero sum game, so every point Queens earns while making a final must be a negative hit to someone else. It now looks like the Royals are in a strong position to repeat their team title. Meanwhile the second tier of teams vying for third through ninth is still locked in a tight race.

With Jason Owen not recruiting for Drury any more you can see what is happening.
Awesome to see a different team in 1st place.
I’ve found the best way to judge meets as they go from a team perspective is to look at numbers of “empty swims.”
Texas had and has studs, don’t get me wrong, but they ran away and hid at DI NCAAs last year because they left the fewest points on the table.
In the same way, Queens just isn’t wasting any swims. 6 individual swims this morning, 5 coming back tonight. Only thing they botched a bit was missing the 200 FR big final.
Compare that to Lindenwood who has 5 scores on 9 entries.
GVSU with the surge today but they don’t have the swimming numbers and diving is only 2 events.

Totally agree, just didn’t know the term for it. However, Lindenwood has a lot more room for improvement in their relays and are taking advantage of it.
