The annual RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim took place on September 11. The race takes place in Tiburon, California and has been happening since 1999. Swimmers from around the world come to Tiburon to take on a mile of the Raccoon Strait. Swimmers compete in three divisions, Elite, Age Group and Wet Suit.

Elite

The top swimmer in the Elite division was the USA’s Chip Peterson. Finishing with a time of 25:12, he came in just ahead of second place, Australia’s Michael Sheil. Sheil finished with a time of 25:18. USA’s Ashley Twichell snagged third overall, but came in first place in the women’s category of the Elite division with a time of 26:06. Twichell also won the women’s Elite division in 2015 and 2013.

Age Group

The age group division consists of multiple age-defined categories. Stephen Root came in first in the Age Group division over all as well as winning the Men’s 40-49 category with a time of 32:10. Taking second overall was Mason Loyet with a time of 32:32. Loyet also won the men’s 12-18 category. Bill McCracken followed Loyet with a third place overall time of 32:42; fast enough for him to win the men’s 50-59 age group.

In the women’s age group category, Isha Ferris came in first with a time of 34:53. Ferris came in 8th overall, and won the women’s 13-18 age group. Following her with a time of 35:27, Ashleen O’Brien came in 9th overall, placing second in the women’s 13-18 category. Emilia E. Caya Blonkenfe was the third woman to finish in the age group division coming in 13th overall with a time of 35:47; this time placed her first in the women’s 1-12 age group.

Wet Suit

In the men’s wet suit division, USA’s Zach Rogers came in first with a time of 30:37. Rogers was followed by Iona Pascual with  a time of 32:49 and Ben Van Dyke with a time of 34:31. In the women’s category, Junko Taniguchi finished first. Her time of 39:42 placed her 14th overall in the Wet Suit division. Following Taniguchi was Molly Coomber with a time of 40:15 and Tatiana Arlamenkova with a time of 40:42.
