Following day 4 finals at the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada, Team USA and Russia have maintained their top 2 spots in the medal count, while Japan has moved up into 3rd. The Americans and Russians each brought home 2 gold tonight. For the USA, the wins came courtesy of junior standout Michael Andrew in the 100 IM and distance freestyler Leah Smith in the 400 free. Russia picked up their golds in the 200 free relay and 800 free relay.
Heading into day 4 finals, the Japanese were in a tie for 7th with 3 medals. They tacked on 7 more, including their first gold, to move up in the standings. Junya Koga was the swimmer who brought in the gold, winning the men’s 50 back. They took 2 medals in the 100 IM, with Daiya Seto and Shinri Shioura grabbing silver and bronze respectively. Also bringing in individual bronze medals were Rikako Ikee (50 fly) and Chihiro Igarashi (400 free). In addition to those swims, the Japanese took bronze in both men’s relays.
