Day 1 of the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada are now in the books. Following the 1st day of competition, Team USA leads the medal tables with 5 total medals, including a gold from the women’s 400 free relay, 2 silvers from Ella Eastin and Tom Shields, and 2 bronzes from Madisyn Cox and the men’s 400 free relay.
There weren’t any countries that won more than 1 gold tonight, but 4 other countries picked up multiple medals: Hungary (3), Italy (2), Russia (2), and Japan (2).
- Hungary sits 2nd on the table thanks to a pair of medals from Katinka Hosszu (1 gold, 1 silver) and a bronze from Peter Bernek.
- Italy’s Federica Pellegrini grabbed an individual gold before helping their 400 free relay pick up silver.
- Russia took gold in the men’s 400 free relay, while Aleksandr Karsnykh added an individual silver to their total
- Daiya Seto won both of Japan’s medals tonight after taking 3rd in the 200 fly and 200 IM.
