- Event Schedule
For American swimming, the drama of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games begins in June, with the U.S. Olympic Trials kicking off in Omaha, Nebraska.
To get you ready to follow all of the action, we here at SwimSwam will be profiling all 26 races individually, complete with winner picks and time predictions.
You can follow along with all the preview action with the schedule below, which roughly maps out the schedule we’ll be sticking to for the next six weeks. The schedule, of course, is somewhat fluid as news breaks about who is swimming what, and the final few national-level meets give last-minute glimpses at where each athlete is at.
We’ll be linking this schedule out to each preview story as it is posted, as we’ve done for the women’s 100 fly. Bookmark this page to follow each preview as it drops, and weigh in with your own predictions in our comments section.

No mention of NCAA champ Licon in the 200 Breast? Longhorn in taper meet shows him really fast…
Hi Back2Back, the picks listed here are specifically the picks to make the Olympic Team. Licon’s chances are discussed in the full event preview here: https://staging.swimswam.com/olympic-trials-preview-cordes-leads-tight-field-in-mens-200-breast/
6 days, 5 events left to preview, not to mention the pick-em contest, you guys better get on it or your previews are going to come out after the event has already swum.
Bold pick townley haas in the 400
BOBO GIGI
Any change in mind with the Ladies 100 meter back with Smoliga and Stevens dropping in at 59.41 and 59.67. I was very surprised by their time since I am sure they did not taper for this weekend in Indianapolis.
I certainly would not count Ms. Smoliga out.
Phelps predictions. For Trials
100 free prelims: 47.9 for 3rd or the 4th for the relay.
200 fly: 1:52.1
200 im: 1:54.31 ( he could break the wr, but I hope he saves those for Rio )
200 free prelims: 1:45.4 (I’m not sure if he’d go all out or hold back). Maybe a 1:44.3
Rio
Relay leadoff: 47.2 Gold
200 fly: 1:50.9-65 Gold
4×200 free leadoff: 1:44.2 Gold
If he does the anchor : 1:43.7
200 IM: 153.5 Gold
100 Fly: 49.79 Gold
100 fly split: 49.6 Gold
😀 if you have doubts: Watch his Under Armour Commercial
No way he goes a 47.2 100fr and only a 1:44 in the 200.
I’m not saying that he’ll go slower in the 100 free but he won’t be any slower than 1:43 high in the 200 if he goes a 47 low in the sprint.
Glad to see you optimistic! That comment was really on a standard, I definitely think he can go under 47.0 actually. 200 free in the relay is tricky, more like a mediocre time. But the relay is right after the 200 fly, and the first relay is his first race. He has focused more on 100 and 200 fly than the free. I see 1:43.3 leadoff at best. But it tricky.
What do people think about Michael Chadwick making the 400 free relay?
