Today is the final day of competition at the 2016 women’s Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way. With the team battles still extremely close, we’ll see each team looking to get their swimmers into finals of the 200 stroke events and the 100 freestyle. Later today, the distance swimmers will race the 1650.
WOMEN’S 200 BACK
Stanford’s Janet Hu got the Cardinal on top in the first event of the day. Hu swam a 1:50.48 to take the top seed headed into tonight’s final. In the championship race tonight, she’ll be joined by her teammate Ally Howe, who won the 100 back at this meet. Howe qualified 5th in 1:52.99.
Cal got 3 into the top 8 this morning, led by Amy Bilquist as the 2nd seed with a 1:52.25. Kathleen Baker was 3rd in 1:52.37, followed by Liz Pelton (1:52.46) in 4th.
USC will have 2 in the final as well, which will keep the team battle between Stanford and USC interesting. Kendyl Stewart qualified 6th in 1:53.90, and Hannah Weiss was 8th with a 1:54.51. UCLA’s Madison White (1:54.21) sits between them.

WOMEN’S 100 FREE
A total of 4 women dipped under 48 this morning in the 100 free, led by Cal’s Farida Osman in a blazing 47.34. Osman is the top seed and will look for her 3rd individual Pac-12 title in this event tonight. That’ll be no easy feat with Stanford’s Lia Neal next to her. Neal was also impressive this morning with a 47.46.
A pair of Trojans took the next two spots, with Katarzyna Wilk taking 3rd in 47.61 ahead of her teammate, SDSU transfer Anika Apostalon, who was 4th in 47.92.
Cal’s Rachel Bootsma opted out of backstroke today and instead qualified 5th in this event with a 48.28. Arizona’s Katrina Kanopka and UCLA’s Linnea Mack tied for 6th behind her in 48.62. Arizona’s Paige Kremer closed out the top 8 with a 48.73.

WOMEN’S 200 BREAST
Stanford’s Sarah Haase qualified first for the 200 breast final this morning after winning the 100 breast by a large margin last night. Haase touched the wall in 2:08.80 for the top seed. Arizona’s Emma Schoettmer was within a tenth of that, qualifying 2nd in 2:08.88 to set up a good race tonight.
USC freshmen Riley Scott and Kirsten Vose were both under 2:10 this morning. Scott was a 2:09.12 and Vose was a 2:09.68, setting them up as 3rd and 4th seeds respectively.
UCLA’s Emma Schanz touched in 2:10.43 to take 5th, hundredths ahead of 6th seed Marin Garcia (2:10.49). Washington State’s Presley Wetterstrom (2:11.52) and Utah’s Stina Colleou (2:11.58) closed out the top 8 qualifications.

WOMEN’S 200 FLY
Stanford’s Ella Eastin, already with a pair of IM wins and National Age Group Records under her belt from her first Pac-12 Championship meet, broke another one in prelims of the women’s 200 fly.Her 1:51.96, which makes her the top seed by 2.5 seconds, is almost a full second faster than her current Stanford teammate Janet Hu swam in 2014 (1:52.92).
The USC and Cal women, however, did big damage by putting 3 each into the A-final as compared to just two for Stanford. Noemie Thomas (1:54.43) and Kelly Naze (1:54.67), both Golden Bears, were the 2nd and 3rd qualifiers into finals.
