Though the original entries list for the 2017 FINA World Championships included Singapore’s Joseph Schooling in the men’s 200 fly, we won’t get to see the Olympic 100 fly champ compete in the event after all. Schooling is absent from the current start lists on Omega timing.
Schooling swapped out this event for the 100 free last summer in Rio, so we didn’t get a chance to see what he could do in the 200 fly at his peak. His lifetime best is a 1:55.73 from 2015 SEA Games. This season, he registered a 2017 best of 1:56.45 at the Arena Pro Swim Series stop in Atlanta.
Schooling still has a handful of events to come at this meet: the 50 fly, 100 fly, and 100 free. Tonight, he’ll be competing in the semifinals of the 50 fly. He took down his own Asian Record in that race during this morning’s prelims, clocking in at 23.05 to lower his former best 23.25 and earn the 3rd seed for semis.
Singapore is always boasting name it and you hear it… learn to be humble sirs and madams and misses
I always believe in “pride goes before the fall” …. watching Djokovic boasting before the 12017 Wimbledon, Pacquio the Filipino boxer, Roger Federer (he won 2017’s Wimbledon cos the top 4 were all injured) so was his opponent at the Finals, to name but a few, and, not forgetting the “great” Tiger Woods (is he amongst the woods?) God is great!!! Follow Rafa Nadal’s attitude and you’ll do great MR SCHOOLING!!! Every time he wins he dashes to his family and team and greets and hugs them jubilantly. A humble pie is worth eating
Shocker. If he swam all 3 200, he chance at the WR and 100 fly title goes down.
It is already going down with King Dressel on the loose.
he’s going to get that WR now, you betcha!
Good, because it would have been ugly. We did get to see what he did at his peak. He switched events and considers himself a sprinter. Unlike LeClos and Cseh, he can’t go fast in a 50 and 100 and also go fast in a 200 LCM.
Donald is a straight shooter. Schooling can’t handle the 200 with the rest of his lineup and the conditioning for a 200 isn’t there.
