With the fourth day of the 2017 USA Nationals/World Championships Trials meet in the books, we can take a look at how the men’s and women’s rosters for next month’s World Championships are filling out. You can get a full refresher on the selection process here, and we’ll try to talk you through the process as we show you the roster.
Through the fourth day, on our list, we have twenty two men and all of the women with guaranteed roster spots. Matt Grevers punched his ticket to Budapest with his remarkable win in the 100 back.
Now that enough women have doubled up, all of the women who have met the priorities below will be invited to the 2017 U.S. Worlds team.
For the men, enough have doubled to guarantee Worlds spots for the top 3 priorities– only Michael Chadwick is on the bubble. There’s a very small chance that Chadwick will miss the team, though, as the men only need two more people already on the team to double, and the chance that Dressel/Adrian/Sweetser/Kalisz/Litherland or someone else gets a top two finish (or first in the 800) tomorrow is very high.

Leah Smith did not even swim the 400 IM at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
So if Dressel makes it in the 50, then you add the Medley and maybe the mixed Medley that’s a potential for 8 medals!!!! Actually a decent chance of 6-7 with the outside chance of 8!! I think favored to medal in 7.
Leave the medley and mixed medley to guys like Apple and Haas.

I think if I were Leah Smith, I might drop the 200. She’s much more competitive in all the other races, and she could still get a time if she leads off the relay.
I don’t think she will do it.

Day 4: rest ( she may not make final. Depends if Ikee, Heemskerk and Hosszu are racing)
Day 5: 4×200 (no morning competition)
Day 6: 800
Day 7: 400IM
Leah Smith is entered in the 1500 free at the 2017 US National Championships.
I do not know if I am counting wrong, and I only counted the names for the men, but I end up with 21 men between Priority 1 & 2 and tomorrow are 5 positions up for grab between Priority 1, 2, 3. So if there are 5 new names tomorrow (although I think that is unlikely) only 1 out of 2 priority 3 swimmers would make it unless I counted wrong.
