Competition at the 2017 World University Games concluded tonight with day 7 finals in Taipei. Tonight, we saw swimmers compete for medals in the women’s 50 free, men’s 50 free, women’s 50 breast, women’s 200 fly, men’s 400 IM, women’s 400 free, women’s 4×100 free relay, men’s 4×100 free relay. The USA broke its tie with Japan in the gold medal standings thanks to their 4 victories on the final night of competition. Those wins came courtesy of Andee Cottrell (50 breast), Caroline Baldwin (50 free), Ella Eastin (200 fly), and the men’s 4×100 medley relay squad. That gave them 11 gold medals, while Japan’s Daiya Seto (400 IM) and women’s 4×100 medley relay squad brought their total up to 9 on the final day. The Americans also topped the standings in terms of total medals, winning 28 throughout the meet. Japan was 2nd in that category as well with 20 total medals.
