2018 NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

200 FLY

  • NCAA Record: 1:55.66 3/23/2012 Logan Todhunter, Williams

Anne Dassow came back on Kailey Allen in the back half of the race after going out over a second slower than her, 57.72 to 56.58. Dassow put up a 1:02.57 on the 2nd 100, compared to 1:04.23 for Allen. There were 2 freshmen in the race, Allen and Molly Craig, and 3 sophomores, Dassow, Kayla Holman, and Michelle Wang. Given that, this should be a 200 fky field we get pretty familiar with in the coming seasons.

100 BACK

Crile Hart, a Kenyon freshman, nearly broke the NCAA Division 3 record, winning by .61 seconds over Cindy Cheng. Hart kept her 50 splits within a second of each other, going out in 26.36, and coming home in 27.25. That time came in well under her entry time for the meet of 55.01. This was another underclassmen-heavy field, with frashmen Hart and Bethany Seagraves, and sophomores Caroline Olsen and Caroline Murphy. It was also a great event for Emory, with Cheng, Olson, and Seagraves going 2-3-8.

100 BREAST

  3. Caroline White – 1:02.17
  4. Katherine Mesaros – 1:02.40
  5. Jessica Chen – 1:02.49
  6. Ashley Daniels – 1:02.51

KT Kustritz smashed her own Division 3 record, becoming the first woman from Division 3 to break 1 minute in the 100 breaststroke. She won the event by over 2 seconds, posting the fastest split in both 50s by a bout a second. She was out in 28.13, and back in 31.64. There was a tight race for 3rd going on, with Caroline White coming home faster than the rest to get her hands on the wall before them

800 FREE RELAY

  • NCAA Record: 7:14.98  3/17/2017, Emory (Muir, Wawer, Bergh, Cheng)
  1. Emory – 7:13.51
  2. Kenyon – 7:15.99
  3. Williams – 7:24.01

The Emory team of Fiona Muir, Julia Wawer, Megan Taylor, and Cindy Cheng broke Emory’s own Division 3 record, which was set last year by a squad containing all but Taylor. The first 3 legs were very consistent, with Muir leading off in 1:48.77, followed by splits of 1:48.59 and 1:48.89 from Wawer and Taylor. Cheng than threw down a 1:47.26 to solidify their lead and give them the record as well as the title.
