The pre-cut psych sheets for the 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships have been released – the first step in the NCAA Selection process. This list is a precursor to Wednesday’s selection release, where swimmer will find out whether or not they have earned an invite to the meet. These sheets are basically a list of “requested entries” from swimmers with NCAA Consideration times – so athletes are forced into their 3 events, but still not certain of an invite (barring an “A” standard).
SwimSwam will spend the day poring through these sheets for interesting entries, and working out the math on who will earn an invite and who won’t.
A refresher on how that process works: The NCAA will go through, event by event, and add one swimmer to each, until a certain “line” (aka, all 30th-ranked swimmers) puts the field over the maximum 281 individual entries (322 total minus 41 places for divers). At that point, swimmers will be invited based on who is the closest to the NCAA Championship Record in their event. I am really keeping my fingers crossed that Beryl Gastaldello will be healthy enough to compete at NC’s. If I’m not mistaken, she’s a senior. Huge swimmer for A&M. (Tennessee wouldn’t have won any of those relays if she swam at SEC’s).
Big surprise– Amy Bilquist is going with the 100 free instead of 200 back. I thought 200 back may have been her best event– she was #1 in the nation before conference. Hmmmm. Must be something in store.
QUESTION:
If your B cut is #35 and good enough to be invited, are you able to enter the other 2 B cut events that are outside top 35 (cut-off)?
I believe so. If you qualify in one event, you can swim 2 other events provided you have the B cut.
SwimFan – that’s correct. Effectively, that’s the only real function of the “B” cut time standards – without that function, because of where they are set (always far, far below what’s getting invited), they wouldn’t be any more meaningful than just an emotional benchmark.
Glad Ledecky is swimming 400 IM. I hope she does it at nationals long course. Would love to see her challenge Hosszu in that!

Are there any teams with too many swimmers entered? Final entries can only have 18 swimmers and divers.
Divers count as 1/2 a squad spot. 16 Swimmers and 4 divers is 18 squad spots. No divers? Bring 18 Swimmers.
Your picture is of Georgia, but the caption says, “Stanford is seeking a second-straight NCAA title in 2018.” Shouldn’t it be a picture of Stanford?

Probably because she is swimming the 400 IM. She can only do 3 and looks like she is branching out….again.
