2018 NEC Championships Day 3: Another Pair of NEC Records Fall

On the 3rd day of the 2018 NEC Championships, Bryant maintained it’s spot at the top of the team standings, fueled by a relay win and 3 individual event wins. Saint Francis’ Karilyn Quon broke the NEC record in the 400 IM, while Elin Svard of Bryant took down the 100 fly record.

Quon went 4:21.09 in the 400 IM to win by 2 seconds and come in about half a second under the NEC record of 4:21.62, set by Amanda Lucia in 2015. Quon was pretty strong on the first half of the race, posting a 59.30 fly and 1:04.47 back to hit the 200 wall at 2:03.77. Defending champion Aidan Devers came in 4th with a 4:29.38.

Elin Svard blasted a 53.69 in the 100 fly to break the NEC record by half a second, and win the race by over a second. Svard was out vewry fast, hitting the 1st 50 wall in 24.67, and she came home in 29.02. While her time is well under the NCAA B cut, but it looks like it will take a 52-low to get invited to the NCAAs this year.

The Bryant 400 medley relay team of Alaina Scifo, Heather Wong, Elin Svard, and Alexa Rivera combined to post a 3:43.28, just barely missing the conference record mark of 3:43.18. Their splits were 55.76, 1:03.04, 53.61, and 50.87 respectively. They came in 2 seconds ahead of runner-up Central Connecticut State, who touched at 3:45.35.
