How everyone did

Tonight’s session followed people’s expectations pretty closely. Even the upsets were minor ones. This was a change from the first three days (day 1/2, day 3) which, outside of the event winners, saw lots of unexpected swimmers crack the top 4.

Katie Ledecky fulfilled everyone’s expectations, winning the mile as the unanimous pick of contest entries. The rest of the race was basically chalk the next 3 most popular picks, Ally McHugh, Hannah Moore, and Megan Byrnes, placed 3-2-4.

In the 200 back, favorite of 98%, Kathleen Baker dominated, and three of the next four most popular picks made up the rest of the top 4. Janet Hu (45% picked for 2nd), who was 8th, was a popular pick that didn’t pan out.

The 100 free saw the most popular picks to win (Simone Manuel, 86% picked 1st) get 2nd (Mallory Comerford, 53% 2nd), and get 3rd (Abbey Weitzeil,  48% 3rd) all pan out. Erika Brown, a popular choice for 4th (53%) was 6th. 4th was Siobhan Haughey who appeared in only 14% of top 4s.

In the 200 breast Lilly King won, as expected by 89% of entries. Again 3 of the most popular 4 picks came through. Sydney Pickrem, who was 3rd, was the most popular choice for second, and Bethany Galat, who was 2nd, was the top choice for 3rd. Miranda Tucker beat out reader preferred Anna Belousova. Belousova ended up 6th.

The final individual swimming event of the meet was again, chalk. Ella Eastin (picked 1st by 99%) won going away over the favorite’s for the next two spots Katie Drabot (48% picked 2nd), and Louise Hansson (39% 3rd). Katie McLaughlin was a slight upset for 4th beating more popular pick Megan Kingsley who was 5th.

Readers did well predicting the team race as well. The most picked team in each of the first 5 places got that place. The first upset was Texas who ended up 6th.

Mucho congrats to CRAIGH. I sometimes share a lane with him. I wish that some of his swimming smarts would rub off on me. Nice job, Craig!

That’s funny. I really didn’t follow how I was doing after Day 2. After Comerford’s 500 Free, I felt like I had totally blown things and wrote the whole Pick Em off. Got the Top 2 in the 1650, Top 3 in the 200 Breast, Top 4 in the 200 Fly, and the correct swimmers (some in thhe wrong order) in the other events, so I guess that was good enough to come from behind on Day 4!

I made the top ten!?! I’m simultaneously shocked and excited.
This meet has been very exciting to follow. Never been happier to be wrong about my picks. New players announcing themselves emphatically just like Comerford did last season. Old players re-declaring themselves. I can’t wait to see what they all will do in LCM.
