Day 3 of the 2019 U.S. Open Swimming Championships will begin with heats of the women’s and men’s 400 IM. Those will be followed by the 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and 100 back. The A flight (fastest heats) will run from 10:00 AM to 1:05 PM. The B flight will follow, from 1:07-2:59 PM.
Matt Grevers of Tucson Ford Dealers, the number one seed in the men’s 100 back with 52.75, has scratched the event, leaving Canada’s Markus Thormeyer as the top prospect with 53.35. 29th seed John Shebat (New York Athletic Club) has also pulled out of the 100 back. The only other scratches from the men’s circle-seeded heats are Dynamo Swim Club’s Gunnar Bentz (13th in the 400 IM with 4:20.37) and Indiana University’s Zane Backes (22nd in the 100 breast with 1:01.30).
Hali Flickinger of Sun Devil Swimming, Katie McLaughlin of California Aquatics, and Claire Curzan from TAC Titans continue to be absent. They had been entered in a combined 6 events on Friday. Flickinger was seeded 8th in the 400 IM (4:38.84) and 9th in the 200 free (1:57.65). McLaughlin was 2nd in the 100 fly (57.23) and 4th in the 200 free (1:56.48). Curzan was 6th in the 100 fly (57.87) and 8th in the 100 back (1:00.00).
Canada’s Taylor Ruck has scratched the 200 free; she had been seeded 5th with 1:56.97. Leah Smith of Tucson Ford Dealers has withdrawn from the 400 IM where she was seeded 13th. Instead, she will focus on the 200 free where she is now 5th after scratches from McLaughlin and Ruck. Sophie Hansson of NC State and Wolfpack Elite dropped the 100 breast where she was 12th with 1:07.78.
No live recap of prelims today?
Ledecky placed 3rd at 443 in heat 5. Forde and Sargent were ahead of her. Cox was no-show
Ledecky was 446. Forde was 443. Oops
Weird
A lot of video restrictions on the pool deck according to the public address announcer…hope it doesnt affect vloggers
Well they told MA he couldn’t vlog with the team so now they have to ban it all or else it looks like they just had something against him personally.
Thats why MA isnt at the meet.
No vlog=no revenue
No McLaughlin? Man was hoping for a fast 200 free
Did hali not make the trip?
35 years old Ryan Lochte Swim 400IM. Whether qualifing final?
Whether complete 8 laps?
I don’t think he’ll swim it and if he does it will be a 4:22ish effort.
Well, he’s posting IG photos with his newborn at the hospital (she’s doing well), so not too shocking. Disappointed for him, though.
I can assure you, he’s not disappointed.
Trust me. Give him 20 years of kids. He’ll be disappointed a time or two (hundred). But if he’s really a racer for Tokyo, and a part of him isn’t disappointed in missing this LCM meet for whatever the wonderful reason, that’s a problem.
