2020 WA State 3A HS Finalist Ian Lipton Commits to Kenyon College for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

DIII Kenyon College has received a verbal commitment from Ian Lipton of Bainbridge Island, WA beginning in the fall of 2021. Lipton is a senior at Bainbridge High School and he swims year-round for Bainbridge Island Swim Club.

I am very proud to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Kenyon College. Big thanks to my parents, teammates and coaches for helping me reach this point. Shoutout to Coach Fernando and Coach Book for being so helpful throughout this process. Let’s go win a Natty!

In the summer of 2019, Lipton competed at the 2019 USA Swimming Futures Championships at Mt. Hood. He swam the 100 and 200 back and the 200 breast, and he time trialed the 50 and 100 free. He finished 48th in the 100 back in a time of 1:02.42 and 90th in the 100 breast (1:11.67). His 200 back time of 2:14.29 earned him a spot in the C-final. In finals, Lipton went 1.43 seconds faster than he had in prelims, moving up 4 spots to finish 20th.

Lipton has 2019 Futures cuts in the 100 back in both SCY and LCM. He was selected to attend the 2019 Western Zone Select Camp.

The Bainbridge High School senior competed at the 2020 Washington Boys 3A State Championships in February. He made it back in the A-final in both the 200 IM and the 100 back and he swam on his school’s 200 medley and 400 free relays. He touched 5th in the 100 back, posting a personal best time of 51.65. He went a best time 1:55.83 in prelims of the 200 IM and he touched 8th in finals.

Bainbridge High School’s 400 free relay finished second behind Bellingham High School. Oskar Bannister, Harrison Villella, Lipton, and Jude Wenker came from behind O’dea High School’s relay to earn the silver medal. Lipton swam the backstroke leg of his team’s 200 medley relay, going a 50 back time of 24.53. Bainbridge High School ended the meet second behind Mercer Island High School.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 back – 24.32
  • 100 back – 51.65
  • 200 back – 1:53.67
  • 100 breast – 1:00.54
  • 200 IM – 1:55.83

Lipton will join the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference champions in the fall of 2021. His top times would have placed him in the B-final of the 100 back and 200 IM, the A-final of the 200 back, and the C-final of the 100 breast at the conference meet.
