2021 INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING LEAGUE – SEASON 3, MATCH 8

Day 2 Start Lists

Day Two Lane Assignments

  • Lanes 1&2: LA Current (LAC)
  • Lanes 3&4: Energy Standard (ENS)
  • Lanes 5&6: London Roar (LON)
  • Lanes 7&8: Tokyo Frog Kings (TOK)

There are two tight team battles for the second day of match eight here in Naples. After a quiet start, Energy Standard built a 25-point lead over the London Roar in the race for the match win. At the same time, the LA Current are coming back from a number of day one setbacks to jump the Tokyo Frog Kings for third place. Currently, LA has a nine-point lead over Tokyo.

Energy’s Sarah Sjostrom will swim the usual 100 free/50 fly double as well as London’s Emma McKeon and LA’s Abbey Weitzeil. McKeon is also entered in the 50 back skins next to event World record-holder Kira Toussaint, who has been undefeated in the backstroke events thus far.

Energy’s Chad le Clos and Ben Proud will swim both the individual and skins 50 fly events, raising the pressure on London skins swimmers Vini Lanza and Dylan Carter. The Roar will still be able to utilize Olympic event champion Kyle Chalmers in the 100 free.

Anyone seen the caption on ISL’s Instagram page of the match 8 score

“We’re not surprised by the club standings of the ISL’s season 3’s match 8!

Double tap if you aren’t either”

Now I know it’s been made clear that the founder of ISL supports energy standard, I’ve got nothing against that but for the main page to start to come across as biased isn’t a good look especially considering it really was a close match a better caption could have been “who enjoyed every minute of the match down to final race as much as we did!”

Idk it could have been anything that didn’t come across as biased

LON in the MMR just further reinforces that you can’t win with a woman in the breaststroke slot (not that I’m saying they had any better options in this, just a general statement). Guido had the fastest back split and Atkinson/Sjostrom/Chalmers are one of if not the best in the world in their respective 100s but they still didn’t really have a chance at winning.

*McKeon

While LON did win last week with that lineup it requires the other team to be slow across multiple strokes for them to pull it off which makes it a losing tactic against any strong team.

Had no idea Abbey Weitzel was such a good 50 flyer. Almost tagged McKeon and Sjostrom, that would have been something.

Yui Ohashi’s thought after getting jackpotted in the 100 IM: [“Who cares? I’m a double individual Olympic champion.”]

It does feel a bit strange to see a bunch of Olympians be beaten in their events by people I’ve never heard of. But yeah, if you choice was to win an ISL match or win Olympic gold then I know what I’d choose.

Katie shanahan is quite well known by British swimming fans, she’s only 17 and broke a british age group record in the 200IM when she was only 14, she had her big breakthrough at european juniors earlier this year where she won 6 medals including 4 individual medals and 2 Golds in both IM’s. Now that Willmott’s retired (I think?) She will be GB’s leading light in the 400IM.

Shanahan was a star of Euro Jrs, as was Mildred. Where as Mildred has been decidedly out of his depth, this was not Shanahan’s first commendable ISL swim.

Appalled by some of the line-ups of LA Current. Don’t know what head coach is thinking. Devine is doing nothing. Rooney not being used. Hopefully this will all get better in semis.

Poor Kyle. Still can’t set the best ISL Season 3 time in the 100 free. Maybe he should transition into the 200 free. It wouldn’t help the London Roar, but it could help Team Australia.

He already swims the 200 free. And he won the 50 and 100 free this match, throwing down the seventh fastest 100 free relay split of all time.

What are you on about?

She did that once last year and the result was the same in round 2. Probably knew she had no chance against Wilm anyway.

She’s a great 70-75m swimmer but she dies coming home over 100, esp LCM. Realistically not making final 2 was not a surprise. Was the “all out” first round a conscious effort given this weakness or not ?
