Day 1 Start Lists

Lane Assignments

  • Lanes 1 & 2 – Iron
  • Lanes 3 & 4 – Energy Standard
  • Lanes 5 & 6 – London Roar
  • Lanes 7 & 8 – NY Breakers

The London Roar and Iron are scheduled to make their season 3 debut during the first day of match two in Naples against the likes of Energy Standard and the NY Breakers. Some strong names from each squad are left off of today’s start lists, or have yet to arrive in Naples, leaving many weakened spots during this upcoming match.

For Energy Standard, match one 200 back winner Evgeny Rylov is not entered on the day one start lists. Sprinter Kliment Kolesnikov will swim alongside teammate Travis Mahoney in the 50/200 back events and lead off the 4×100 medley relay. Mahoney was entered in the 200 IM in match one and will be swapped with Charlie Swanson.

Katinka Hosszu and Melanie Henique are also missing for team Iron. Africa Zamorano will take over in the 200 IM and 200 back events while Costanza Cocconcelli will swim alongside sprint ace Ranomi Kromowidjojo in the 50 free.

The London Roar will be without strong names Adam PeatyTom DeanKyle Chalmers, and Emma McKeon for this match. Sam Williamson will fill in for Peaty in the breaststroke events, alongside Ross Murdoch, while Dylan Carter and Kenzo Simons will cover for Chalmers in the 50 free and 4×100 free relay spots. Dean, the 200 free Olympic champion, would most likely swim the 400 free on day one, and will be substituted with Zac Incerti and Edward Mildred.

Despite a few slightly-weakened areas, London will still have events they can make a roar in. Making their 2021 short course racing returns will be backstrokers Minna Atherton and Guilherme Guido along with breaststrokers Annie Lazor and Alia Atkinson. Atherton scheduled to swim the 200 back and 50 back as well as the 4×100 medley relay. With McKeon out, Atherton will flip over and contribute to the 4×100 free relay. Guido is entered in the 50 back and will lead off the 4×100 medley relay while Lazor will swim the 200 breast and lead off a 4×100 medley relay. Atkinson is slated to swim both the 50 and 200 breast individually, as well as lead off the other medley relay.

Tes Schouten is out of personal quarantine and will make her season 3 debut for the NY Breakers with her entries in the 50 breast and the 4×100 medley relay. However, the Breakers are still missing Meiron CherutiElliot Clogg, and Mewen Tomac, leaving their men’s free/back events weakened with non-sprint/backstroke specialists. Joe Litchfield, who is known for the 200 IM, is put in the 50 back plus the 4×100 free relay while Brandonn Almedia, a mid-distance FR/IMer, will have to swim the 200 back, sprint in the 4×100 free relay, and pull out a 400 free in the same day.
