The 2021 Olympic Trials Wave I wrapped up in Omaha on Monday, with a whopping 15 athletes earning new qualifications for Wave II, by placing Top 2 in their event. From the 50 free to the 1500, there were exciting races on both the men’s and women’s side, with the last race of the meet, the men’s 1500, coming down to the final meter.
Did USA Swimming change their guidelines for making Wave II? Previously, they said the only way to make Wave II from Wave I was to place first or second. So an athlete who swims a Wave II cut but gets third will not be invited. The article made it sound like you can make Wave II just by swimming a Wave II cut.

I can’t say it makes sense to me that if you make a Wave II cut at Wave I you can’t move on… but thems the rules I suppose
